Impact on the mutagenicity of strain TA102 of Salmonella Typhimurium by chlorpyrifos in high concentration together with Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
Chlorpyrifos is a widely used organophosphate pesticide with significant environmental impact. Lacticaseiobacillus rhamnosus GG has shown potential for degrading such pesticides.

Mixture toxicity of pesticides and biological effects in agricultural streams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The main objective of this thesis was to examine pesticide mixture toxicity and its effects on aquatic biota in agricultural streams. This was accomplished by (1) calculating the ΣTUs for algae and Daphnia magna and a pesticide toxicity index (PTI) based

Ameliorating Effect of Chloride on Nitrite Toxicity to Freshwater Invertebrates with Different Physiology: a Comparative Study Between Amphipods and Planarians

open access: yes, 2008
High nitrite concentrations in freshwater ecosystems may cause toxicity to aquatic animals. These living organisms can take nitrite up from water through their chloride cells, subsequently suffering oxidation of their respiratory pigments (hemoglobin ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Daphnia magna acute lethality toxicity test protocol

open access: yes, 1988
Daphnia magna (Straus) is a small planktonic crustacean which is widely distributed in ponds and lakes in Ontario, and is representative of filter-feeding zooplankton communities. This organism has been used in toxicity testing for over 100 years.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

A Comparison of Growth on Mercuric Chloride for Three Lemnaceae Species Reveals Differences in Growth Dynamics That Effect Their Suitability for Use in Either Monitoring or Remediating Ecosystems Contaminated With Mercury

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2018
Mercury (Hg) is a toxic heavy metal that can alter the ecological balance when it contaminates aquatic ecosystems. Previously, researchers have used various Lemnaceae species either to monitor and/or remove heavy metals from freshwater systems.

Lethal and sublethal effects of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) for turbot (_Psetta maxima_) early life stage (ELS)

open access: yes, 2010
A new toxic menace, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), is being detected in the aquatic environment all over the world. The environmental presence of PBDEs and its entry into the environment as BDE-47 and -99 make quality aquatic toxicity data ...
