Deciphering fire tolerance of trees at the Amazonia-Cerrado transition by trait-based approach: Implications from species to communities. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Bot
Abstract Premise Understanding how fire impacts trees is essential for predicting the effects of novel fire regimes on plant diversity in the transition between the world's two most diverse biomes, the Cerrado and the Amazonia. Here we addressed knowledge gaps regarding physiological damage and mortality in transitional species within fire‐prone ...

Refractory neutrophil activation in type 2 diabetics with chronic periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, Volume 55, Issue 2, Page 315-323, April 2020., 2020
Abstract Background Inflammation increases diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) progression and severity. T2DM patients are at high risk of the rapid development of chronic periodontitis (CP). Topical presence, high numbers, and bactericidal effects of immune cells are challenged by augmented antigen‐induced inflammation, which promotes both diseases ...

Analysis of Terpolymerization Systems for the Development of Carbon Fiber Precursors of PAN

open access: yesInternational Journal of Polymer Science, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
The thermal stabilization of polyacrylonitrile fibers (FPAN) is one of the most important steps in the production of carbon fibers (CFs). In this paper, new precursor polymers from PAN have been synthesized with different chemical characteristics using a solution polymerization, and FPAN was obtained using an unconventional wet spinning system in the ...

Neurodegeneration and Glial Response after Acute Striatal Stroke: Histological Basis for Neuroprotective Studies

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Stroke is a leading cause of death and neurological disability worldwide and striatal ischemic stroke is frequent in humans due to obstruction of middle cerebral artery. Several pathological events underlie damage progression and a comprehensive description of the pathological features following experimental stroke in both acute and chronic survival ...

IL‐4 induces cAMP and cGMP in human monocytic cells

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 298-305, 1995., 1995
Human monocytes, preincubated with IFN‐γ respond to IL‐4 by a cGMP increase through activation of an inducible NO synthase. Here, IL‐4 was found to induce an accumulation of cGMP (1 – 3 min) and cAMP (20 – 25 min) in unstimulated monocytes. This was impaired with NOS inhibitors, but also with EGTA and calcium/calmodulin inhibitors.

Global Observations of Acetyl Peroxynitrate (PAN) in the Remote Troposphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 16, 28 August 2025.
Abstract We present global airborne observations of acetyl peroxynitrate (CH3C(O)OONO2, PAN) in the remote troposphere from the Atmospheric Tomography (ATom) campaign. These observations show that biomass burning is the dominant source of PAN in the Southern Hemisphere (SH).

Highly Fluorescent Amidine/Schiff Base Dual-Modified Polyacrylonitrile Nanoparticles for Selective and Sensitive Detection of Copper Ions in Living Cells

open access: yes, 2016
Highly fluorescent surface modified polyacrylonitrile nanoparticles (PAN NPs) of 50 nm diameter were fabricated for selective Cu2+ sensing. After surface modification, the PAN NPs were converted to amidine/Schiff base dual-modified PAN nanoparticles ...
