Controlled Lattice Distortion and Lattice‐Strain‐Engineered CoCuIr Alloy toward Preferential Chlorine Tolerant Direct Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A lattice‐strain‐engineered Co0.28Cu0.67Ir0.05 trimetallic alloy nanoparticle electrocatalyst is rationally designed for efficient alkaline seawater electrolysis. Larger Ir atoms in the CoCu lattice modulate the local coordination environment, generating compressive lattice strain and highly active catalytic sites.

Reconstructing Miocene bird mating behavior from a fossil tracksite

open access: yesScientific Reports
Ichnofossils are important in paleoecological studies, interpreted as fossilized behaviors. Vertebrate footprints, a type of ichnofossils, can reveal the movements of trackmakers.

Co‐Ligand‐Induced Electronic Modulation Controls Substrate Adsorption and Selectivity in Biomass Electrooxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A molecular design strategy is reported that introduces distinct anionic co‐ligands into Cu‐based catalysts to modulate the electronic density of the metal center and, consequently, its interaction with both OHads and HMF. The work establishes co‐ligand engineering as an effective strategy for precise interfacial adsorption control in electrocatalysis,

Origin of Petrified Wood Color

open access: yesGeosciences, 2016
Fossil forests have world-wide distribution, commonly preserving mineralized wood that displays vivid hues and complex color patterns. However, the origin of petrified color has received little scientific attention.

Advancing Energy Materials by In Situ Atomic Scale Methods

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
Progress in in situ atomic scale methods leads to an improved understanding of new and advanced energy materials, where a local understanding of complex, inhomogeneous systems or interfaces down to the atomic scale and quantum level is required. Topics from photovoltaics, dissipation losses, phase transitions, and chemical energy conversion are ...

Kinneyia: a flow-induced anisotropic fossil pattern from ancient microbial mats

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2016
Kinneyia is the commonly-used term to describe a class of trace fossil that is strongly associated with microbial mats. The appearance of Kinneyia (or wrinkle-structures) in the fossil record has recently led to a number of possible mechanisms being ...
