New Configuration of Traction Converter With Medium-Frequency Transformer Using Matrix Converters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2011
This paper presents a new configuration of a main traction converter with a medium-frequency transformer (MFT) using matrix converters intended for locomotives and particularly for suburban units supplied by a 25-kV/50-Hz and/or 15-kV/16.7-Hz ac electrification system.

Computer-assisted modeling of traction drive converter impedance

ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2002
To avoid interference of traction drive circuits on signalling systems, the power converter input impedance must overcome assigned thresholds at the signal frequencies. Such impedance is usually modelled on the basis of time invariant open loop equivalent circuits. In fact, the influence of feedback in the power converter may have a significant effect,

Active Thermal Control for Lifetime Extension of Traction Converter

IET Conference Proceedings, 2021
This paper proposes an Active Thermal Control method conceived to increase the lifetime of power semiconductor modules in liquid-cooled converters. By acting on the cooling system, the coolant flow is varied and consequently the thermal resistance of the coldplate.

Analytical solution to harmonic characteristicsof traction PWM converters

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1997
The paper presents an analytical technique for calculating the AC input current harmonic spectrum of single-phase PWM converter drives used in railway traction. The technique is based on a 3-D modulation model and the double Fourier series (DFS) method.

Converters based on IGCTs in light traction drives

IEEE 2002 28th Annual Conference of the Industrial Electronics Society. IECON 02, 2003
So far, the integrated gate-commutated thyristor (IGCT) has always been considered as a device suitable for converters controlling the power of the order of megawatts or higher. This paper shows how the advantages of the device can be used in a DC chopper and in an inverter designed to feed the traction motors of a trolleybus.

ZCS concept of single-phase traction supply converters

2015 16th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE), 2015
At the present time the major part of traction systems uses single-phase 25kV/50Hz or 15kV/16,66Hz circuitry to traction vehicles supply. The supply stations of traction systems were made in different ways like rotary converters, cycloconverters and actually DC-link converters.

Controllable converters for high-speed railways traction transformers

2016 13th International Scientific-Technical Conference on Actual Problems of Electronics Instrument Engineering (APEIE), 2016
The paper describes the proposed structure of the power converter for traction transformers with even phase number not multiple of three. The converter gives low current and voltage unbalance factor at the transformer primary side. The transformer plus converter control algorithm was simulated in Matlab Simulink.

Multilevel Converter for Traction Applications: Small-Scale Prototype Tests Results

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2008
In ac-supplied traction systems (e.g., 15 kV, 16.7 Hz), the energy supplied by a conventional transformer results in large volume, high weight, and relatively low efficiency. In this paper, an ac-dc multilevel converter is presented that allows the use of a medium-frequency transformer in the input section of a traction drive.

Main Traction Converter with Medium-Frequency Transformer: Control of Converters around MF Transformer

2008 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion, 2008
This contribution deals with a new configuration of main traction converter for locomotives containing a medium-frequency transformer. The main emphasis is given on the proposed control of the converters around the medium-frequency transformer which transmits power using 400-Hz square-wave voltage.
