Improved Practical Matrix Sketching with Guarantees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Matrices have become essential data representations for many large-scale problems in data analytics, and hence matrix sketching is a critical task. Although much research has focused on improving the error/size tradeoff under various sketching paradigms,

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

The preventive maintenance trade-off model

open access: yesVojnotehnički Glasnik, 1997
The paper presents a general model for preventive maintenance of motor vehicles and other systems based on a 'trade-off' between maximum availability and minimum maintenance cost.

Co-existence of multiple trade-off currencies shapes evolutionary outcomes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Evolutionary studies often assume that energy is the primary resource (i.e. "currency") at the heart of the survival-reproduction trade-off, despite recent evidence to the contrary.

Improving information/disturbance and estimation/distortion trade-offs with non universal protocols [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We analyze in details a conditional measurement scheme based on linear optical components, feed-forward loop and homodyne detection. The scheme may be used to achieve two different tasks.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Optimum trade-off charts considering mass variation for the design of semi-active and passive shock absorbers for landing gear

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2016
In this study, we proposed two types of optimum trade-off charts considering mass variation for the design of a semi-active shock absorber and a passive shock absorber for landing gear.

Security Trade-offs in Ancilla-Free Quantum Bit Commitment in the Presence of Superselection Rules

open access: yes, 2004
Security trade-offs have been established for one-way bit commitment in quant-ph/0106019. We study this trade-off in two superselection settings. We show that for an `abelian' superselection rule (exemplified by particle conservation) the standard trade ...

Disguising quantum channels by mixing and channel distance trade-off [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider the reverse problem to the distinguishability of two quantum channels, which we call the disguising problem. Given two quantum channels, the goal here is to make the two channels identical by mixing with some other channels with minimal ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
