The paradox of plant preference: The malaria vectors Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles coluzzii select suboptimal food sources for their survival and reproduction

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2024.
This study investigated the plant preferences of females Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles coluzzii, two key malaria vectors in sub‐Saharan Africa. We found a mismatch between their preference for certain plants, such as Combretum indicum, and their actual performance in terms of survival, insemination rate, and sugar intake.
