Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Targeting FAPα-positive lymph node metastatic tumor cells suppresses colorectal cancer metastasis

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B
Lymphatic metastasis is the main metastatic route for colorectal cancer, which increases the risk of cancer recurrence and distant metastasis. The properties of the lymph node metastatic colorectal cancer (LNM-CRC) cells are poorly understood, and ...

Malformin A1–mediated cytotoxicity in ovarian cancer cells occurs through pyroptosis and autophagy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated the effects of the natural compound Malformin A1 (MA1) on the cytoskeleton that regulates cell proliferation and migration. Disruption of the cytoskeleton can impair these processes and promote cancer cell death. MA1 disrupted cytoskeletal organization, induced DNA damage, inflammation, activated autophagy, and pyroptosis ...

Evaluating the effect of γ‐oryzanol on MASLD pathology using a medaka fish model

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores a liver disease called MASLD, which is increasing worldwide and can lead to serious damage. Researchers used medaka fish instead of rodents to test a food compound, γ‐oryzanol. Fish fed this compound had less liver fat and healthier gut bacteria.

Morphology Effect of Puffball Spores on Hemostasis: A Promising Solution for Hemostatic Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Hemostatic materials play a crucial role in wound healing by promoting blood concentration or releasing procoagulant factors. While hydrophilic hemostatic materials are effective, they may cause excessive blood loss and difficulty removing from the wound.

Hepatoprotective efficacy of low molecular weight chicken intestine peptide against acute alcohol-induced liver injury

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness
Food-derived bioactive peptides exhibit good health-promoting effects. In this study, low molecular weight chicken intestine peptide (CIP) below 2 kDa is prepared through trypsin hydrolysis of chicken intestine and ultrafiltration, and the ...

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.
