列車の運転時隔を短縮することは輸送力増強の上で大きな意味を持つ.ATCを従来よりも多段とし列車速度がこれを超えた時は停車まで緩まないブレーキを作動させることと, これに内接するパターンをもうけこれにそって列車速度を自動制御することと, 列車後部検知を細分化することとにより, 一例では現行ABCでの最小運転時隔140秒である駅間を116秒まで短縮できることを明らかにした.これは17%の輸送力増強にあたる.
