Reduced lysosomal acid lipase activity: A new marker of liver disease severity across the clinical continuum of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease? [PDF]
Lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) plays a key role in intracellular lipid metabolism. Reduced LAL activity promotes increased multi-organ lysosomal cholesterol ester storage, as observed in two recessive autosomal genetic diseases, Wolman disease and ...

Salt‐Compact Albumin as a New Pure Protein‐based Biomaterials: From Design to In Vivo Studies
A new class of materials built entirely of native albumin protein is designed using a simple protocol based on salt‐assisted compaction, breaking with current crosslinking strategies. This green process leads, surprisingly, to water‐insoluble handable materials with high preservation of their native protein structures and Young's modulus close to that ...

Coordinated Slowing of Metabolism in Enteric Bacteria under Nitrogen Limitation: A Perspective [PDF]
It is natural to ask how bacteria coordinate metabolism when depletion of an essential nutrient limits their growth, and they must slow their entire rate of biosynthesis. A major nutrient with a fluctuating abundance is nitrogen. The growth rate of enteric bacteria under nitrogen-limiting conditions is known to correlate with the internal concentration

Phenotypical heterogeneity linked to adipose tissue dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes [PDF]
Adipose tissue (AT) inflammation leads to increased free fatty acid (FFA) efflux and ectopic fat deposition, but whether AT dysfunction drives selective fat accumulation in specific sites remains unknown.

A dual‐functional hafnium oxide nanoplatform is developed for enhanced cancer radiotherapy. This innovative system combines the inherent radiosensitizing properties of high‐Z hafnium oxide with Bcl‐2 gene‐silencing capabilities. The nanoplatform demonstrated synergistic enhancement of radiotherapy efficacy through increased generation of reactive ...

To suppress uveal melanoma metastasis (UM), the GSH‐responsive polymer named NP@Oxa/Criz has been successfully prepared. NP@Oxa/Criz selectively accumulates in UM tumors, targeting HGF/c‐Met Axis to undermine the stemness and metastasis of UM while triggering immunogenic cell death through DAMPs release to boost anti‐tumor immunity.

A flexible electrode loaded with a carbon nanowire network (CC@C‐NWN) is developed for electrochemically generating reactive chlorine species (RCS) from abundant chloride ions in body fluids for tumor therapy. CC@C‐NWN enhances chlorine evolution, inducing redox dysregulation and synergistic apoptosis‐ferroptosis in tumor cells.

The interaction between diabetes, body mass index, hepatic steatosis, and risk of liver resection: insulin dependent diabetes is the greatest risk for major complications [PDF]
Background. This study aimed to assess the relationship between diabetes, obesity, and hepatic steatosis in patients undergoing liver resection and to determine if these factors are independent predictors of major complications.
