Spatial Transcriptomics: A Powerful Tool in Disease Understanding and Drug Discovery

open access: yesTheranostics
Recent advancements in modern science have provided robust tools for drug discovery. The rapid development of transcriptome sequencing technologies has given rise to single-cell transcriptomics and single-nucleus transcriptomics, increasing the accuracy ...

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Pharmacoproteomic characterisation of human colon and rectal cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Most molecular cancer therapies act on protein targets but data on the proteome status of patients and cellular models for proteome-guided pre-clinical drug sensitivity studies are only beginning to emerge.

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

The complexity of the mammalian transcriptome [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2006
A comprehensive understanding of protein and regulatory networks is strictly dependent on the complete description of the transcriptome of cells. After the determination of the genome sequence of several mammalian species, gene identification is based on in silico predictions followed by evidence of transcription.

Data‐driven discovery of gene expression markers distinguishing pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia subtypes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates gene expression differences between two major pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) subtypes, B‐cell precursor ALL, and T‐cell ALL, using a data‐driven approach consisting of biostatistics and machine learning methods. Following analysis of a discovery dataset, we find a set of 14 expression markers differentiating the ...

A rapid and simple clonality assay for bovine leukemia virus-infected cells by amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL), although eradicated in some European countries, is still the most common neoplastic disease of cattle, caused by the bovine leukemia virus (BLV).

Identification of a rare SEPT9 variant in a family with autosomal dominant Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease

open access: yesBMC Medical Genetics, 2020
Background Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is one of the most commonly inherited neurological disorders. A growing number of genes, involved in glial and neuronal functions, have been associated with different subtypes of CMT leading to improved ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.
