Lymphoid‐Tissue‐on‐Chip Recapitulates Human Antibody Responses In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The presented lymphoid‐tissue‐on‐chip system allows culture of primary human tonsil cells at organotypic high density under perfusion for up to 4 weeks, emulates immune response to soluble vaccines and vaccination via peripheral antigen‐presenting cells and represents a useful tool to assess cellular interactions during homeostasis, immune responses ...

Accumulation of non-transferrin-bound iron by neurons, astrocytes, and microglia

open access: yes, 2011
Neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and hemorrhagic stroke are associated with increased levels of non-transferrin-bound iron (NTBI) in the brain, which can promote Fenton ...

Approaches to overcome the blood-brain barrier in the chemotherapy of primary and secondary brain tumors: Modulation of P-glycoprotein 170 and targeting of the transferrin receptor

open access: yes, 2005
Chemotherapy of primary and secondary brain tumors is hampered by the existence of the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) which reduce the brain concentrations of lipophilic cytostatic agents by efflux transport proteins like p-glycoprotein 170 (p-gp).

Dose‐Dependent Reprogramming of Chromatin Accessibility by SOX4 Drives the Transcriptional Response to Iron Overload

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that iron overload triggers widespread chromatin compaction and transcriptional repression in human granulosa cells, recapitulating features of endometriosis. The epigenetic reprogramming is orchestrated by a TFEB‐SOX4‐SWI/SNF axis, with SOX4 acting as a central, dosage‐sensitive regulator.

Transferrin combined with alanine aminotransferase and body mass index improves non-invasive diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis

open access: yesEndocrine Connections
Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease globally, with over 20% of patients progressing to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which carries a high risk

Nanomedicine Meets Immunotherapy: Advancing Adoptive Cell Therapy with Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Cancer with Sustainability Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review surveys nanoparticle‐based strategies to enhance adoptive cell therapy, particularly CAR‐T cell approaches, in solid tumor treatment. It describes how nanoparticles can improve tumor immunogenicity and T‐cell infiltration while reducing toxicity, and how they enable in vivo CAR‐T cell generation.

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

A study of zinc transporter 1 and its role in Type 3 Haemochromatosis

open access: yes, 2009
Hereditary haemochromatosis is an autosomal recessive disorder of iron metabolism, characterised by increased iron absorption and progressive iron accumulation particularly in the liver.

Brain and Liver Dual‐Targeting Oridonin Nanoparticles to Enhance Aβ Clearance for Alzheimer's Disease Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We developed a nanoparticle named OAF, which simultaneously targeted to both the brain and liver via the transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) receptor, promoting lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 1 (LRP1) expression to enhance amyloid‐beta (Aβ) clearance. In AD mice model, OAF significantly reduced Aβ deposition and cognitive impairment, while a mitigating

Transferrin-Conjugated Polymer-Coated Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles Loaded with Gemcitabine for Killing Pancreatic Cancer Cells

open access: yes, 2019
In order to achieve superior delivery of the anticancer drug gemcitabine to Mia PaCa-2 pancreatic cancer cell lines, we have synthesized transferrin (Tf)-conjugated, polymer-coated, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs), with optimization of multiple ...
