Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Rhizosphere microbial community stability and phosphorus availability drive phenotypic differences in garlic growth

open access: yesAnnals of Microbiology
Background The rhizosphere microbiome and soil nutrients are critical for crop growth, but their roles in regulating garlic productivity remain unclear.

Investigation of genetic polymorphisms in genes encoding growth factors and dental pulp calcification in orthodontic patients

open access: yesJournal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research
Background and objectives: Pulp calcification is associated with many factors and triggers, including individual genetic predisposition and orthodontic forces. This study aimed to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms in epidermal growth factor (EGF),

Modulation of TGF-beta signaling by proinflammatory cytokines in articular chondrocytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
OBJECTIVE: The normal structure and function of articular cartilage are the result of a precisely balanced interaction between anabolic and catabolic processes.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Transforming Growth Factor‐β [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta is a prototypic multifunctional cytokine whose broad modulatory mechanisms affect numerous biological functions both at the cell and organism levels. These include, but are not limited to, control of immune functions, embryogenesis, carcinogenesis, tissue responses to injury, cell proliferation, extracellular ...

RHO-Associated Coiled-Coil-Containing Protein Kinase Inhibitors Significantly Modulate the Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition Induced by TGF-β2 in the 2-D and 3-D Cultures of Human Corneal Stroma Fibroblasts

open access: yesBiomedicines
Background/Objectives: The objective of the present study was to examine the unidentified effects that RHO-associated coiled-coil-containing protein kinase 1 and 2 antagonists exert on the transforming growth factor beta2-induced epithelial–mesenchymal ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Transforming growth factor beta–related proteins promote axonal regeneration of injured dorsal root ganglion neurons

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Dorsal root ganglia neurons gradually lose their axonal regeneration ability during development and aging. To explore molecules that enhance axonal regeneration, we screened growth factors with differential gene expression patterns in the dorsal root ...
