Transfer Hydrogenation: Advances in Manganese and Nickel Metal Catalysis

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry
Transfer hydrogenation (TH) of ketones, catalyzed by transition–metal complexes, produces alcohols, which are important building blocks in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. For a long time, catalysts based on noble metals such as ruthenium,

Higgs criticality in a two-dimensional metal

open access: yes, 2015
We analyze a candidate theory for the strange metal near optimal hole-doping in the cuprate superconductors. The theory contains a quantum phase transition between metals with large and small Fermi surfaces of spinless fermions carrying the ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

An ab initio study of the static, dynamic and electronic properties of some liquid 5d transition metals near melting

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2023
We report a study on the static and dynamic properties of several liquid 5d transition metals at thermodynamic conditions near their respective melting points. This is performed by resorting to ab initio molecular dynamics simulations in the framework of

Nanoscale chemical and structural investigation of solid solution polyelemental transition metal oxide nanoparticles

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Although it has been shown that configurational entropy can improve the structural stability in transition metal oxides (TMOs), little is known about the oxidation state of transition metals under random mixing of alloys.

Screening of Coulomb interactions in transition metals

open access: yes, 2004
We discuss different methods of calculation of the screened Coulomb interaction $U$ in transition metals and compare the constraint local-density approximation (LDA) with the GW approach.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Complexity of many-body interactions in transition metals via machine-learned force fields from the TM23 data set

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
This work examines challenges associated with the accuracy of machine-learned force fields (MLFFs) for bulk solid and liquid phases of d-block elements. In exhaustive detail, we contrast the performance of force, energy, and stress predictions across the

Assessing the Impacts of Transition and Physical Climate Risks on Industrial Metal Markets: Evidence from the Novel Multivariate Quantile-on-Quantile Regression

open access: yesAtmosphere
Climate change and global warming have been shown to increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Concurrently, substantial efforts are being directed toward fostering the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Size-dependent deformation behavior in nanosized amorphous metals suggesting transition from collective to individual atomic transport

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The underlying atomistic mechanism of deformation is a central problem in mechanics and materials science. Whereas deformation of crystalline metals is fundamentally understood, the understanding of deformation of amorphous metals lacks behind ...
