STYLISTIC MEANS OF IMPLEMENTING THE IDEA OF THE WORLD’S IRIDESCENCE IN PH.K. DICK’S “UBIK” IN THE CONTEXT OF TRANSLATION TRANSFORMATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesAlfred Nobel University Journal of Philology
The article deals with the formation means of the idea of the world’s iridescence or illusiveness, its stylistic and translation aspects within the textual framework of Ph.K. Dick’s novel “Ubik” and its translat- ed version in Ukrainian. The relevance

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

2-{4-[(1,3-Benzodioxol-5-yl)methyl]piperazin-1-yl}pyrimidine

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2013
In the title compound, C16H18N4O2, known also as peribedil, the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the pyrimidine and benzene rings is 56.5 (8)°. The 1,3-dioxole fragment adopts an envelope conformation with the methylene C atom forming

Global Registration of Terrestrial Laser Scanner Point Clouds Using Plane-to-Plane Correspondences

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Registration of point clouds is a central problem in many mapping and monitoring applications, such as outdoor and indoor mapping, high-speed railway track inspection, heritage documentation, building information modeling, and others.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Di-tert-butyldiisothiocyanatotin(IV)

open access: yesIUCrData
The title compound, [Sn(C4H9)2(NCS)2], which crystallizes with one and a half molecules in the asymmetric unit, represents a new structure type for intermolecular sulfur...tin interactions, which is characterized by an antiparallel (A) arrangement of the

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Femoral Translation in Patients with Unicompartmental Osteoarthritis—A Cohort Study

open access: yesBiomechanics
The use of three-dimensional (3D) gait analysis to image femorotibial translation can aid in the diagnosis of pathology and provide additional insight into the severity of KOA (knee osteoarthritis). Femorotibial translation is of particular importance in

Laminectomy without instrumentation for surgical treatment of metastatic spinal cord compression

open access: yesColuna/Columna, 2014
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the development of mechanical complications as a result of spinal decompression or cauda equina in patients with metastatic tumors of the spine via laminectomy or laminoartrectomy without fixation.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
