Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Double strategies for reproducing multimodal puns in interlinguistic translation: Experimental research

open access: yesEast European Journal of Psycholinguistics
: The research is dedicated to exposing the specifics of translating multimodal puns on the basis of the retrospective experiment. Multimodal pun is defined as a creolized/polycoded formation substantiated by a certain type of ambiguity and consisting of

Humor and allusions on screen

open access: yesThe European Journal of Humour Research, 2023
Contemporary texts often require a reader or viewer with vast background knowledge. One of the reasons behind this is intertextuality: every text is reliant, to a certain extent, on previous written, filmed, or painted artifacts.

Translation Model, Translation Analysis, Translation Strategy: An Integrated Methodology

open access: yesProcedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2014
AbstractThe paper revisits the concepts of translation model, translation analysis, and translation strategy from an integrated perspective. Translation modeling is reconsidered in terms of a paradigm shift and a distinction between a process-oriented (descriptive) model and an action-oriented (prescriptive) model.

Translation Strategies in Translating Toer’s Bumi Manusia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation, 2020
Translating Toer’s Bumi Manusia means translating Indonesian culture. As its translator, Lane has to provide English translation which is enjoyable, readable, and acceptable both culturally and linguistically. He solves the problem of non-equivalence by applying translation strategies.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Are ideophones translatable? The case of translating isiZulu ideophones in DBZ Ntuli’s short story Uthingo Lwenkosazana (The Rainbow)

open access: yesLiterator, 2018
The meaning of words comes into play when words as units of translation are to be translated from one language into another. Lexical items that are extant in one language but not in others pose enormous problems for translators.

Hedging Against the Interest-rate Risk by Measuring the Yield-curve Movement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
By adopting the polynomial interpolation method, we propose an approach to hedge against the interest-rate risk of the default-free bonds by measuring the nonparallel movement of the yield-curve, such as the translation, the rotation and the twist.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
