Enrichment of 65Zn in two contrasting rice genotypes under varying methods of zinc application
Zinc (Zn) is an essential micronutrient for growth and development of almost all organisms and its deficiency severely affects the health of plants, animals and humans.

Many ungulate populations have a complex history of isolation and translocation. Consequently, ungulate populations may have experienced substantial reductions in the level of overall gene flow, yet simultaneously have augmented levels of long-distance ...

Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Out of Equilibrium Characteristics of a Forced Translocating Chain through a Nanopore [PDF]
Polymer translocation through a nano-pore in a thin membrane is studied using a coarse-grained bead-spring model and Langevin dynamics simulation with a particular emphasis to explore out of equilibrium characteristics of the translocating chain.

Gazing at Translocation in the Mitochondrion [PDF]
Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol and imported into the mitochondrion via molecular machines called translocons on the outer and inner mitochondrial membranes. Alder et al. (2008b) examine protein translocation into intact mitochondria by adapting fluorescent techniques first used to study translocation in the endoplasmic ...

To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Full-length prepro-alpha-factor can be translocated across the mammalian microsomal membrane only if translation has not terminated. [PDF]
We have previously shown that fully synthesized prepro-alpha-factor (pp alpha F), the precursor for the yeast pheromone alpha-factor, can be translocated posttranslationally across yeast rough microsomal (RM) membranes from a soluble, ribosome-free pool.

Dynamics of polymer translocation into a circular nanocontainer through a nanopore
Using Langevin dynamics simulations, we investigate the dynamics of polymer translocation into a circular nanocontainer through a nanopore under a driving force $F$.

Survival of translocated prairie-grouse (Tympanuchus spp.) is often low in the first few weeks or months following release into a novel environment. Understanding the processes and mechanisms that influence short-term, post-release survival, such as ...

Telomeres and Chromosomal Translocations [PDF]
Chromosomal translocations are now well understood to not only constitute signature molecular markers for certain human cancers but often also to be causative in the genesis of that tumor. Despite the obvious importance of such events, the molecular mechanism of chromosomal translocations in human cells remains poorly understood.
