Design and fabrication of a metamaterial with resonators to dissipate mechanical vibrations

open access: yesRevista UIS Ingenierías
Mechanical vibrations have been a recurring problem in manufacturing industries, so, its control and isolation are a focus of much research. Metamaterials are a new concept about artificial materials with stunned properties. It means that the material’s

Effects of vaginal microbiota transfer on social–emotional and neurodevelopment in cesarean‐born infants: 12‐month follow‐up of a pilot randomized clinical trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
In a pilot randomized clinical trial of cesarean‐born infants, vaginal microbiota transfer improved social–emotional development at 12 months, reducing social–emotional risk and improving key subdomains, while early neurodevelopmental benefits observed at 6 months were not sustained at 12 months. Abstract Introduction To evaluate the effects of vaginal

A human body model for dynamic response analysis of an integrated human-seat-controller-high speed marine craft interaction system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1946
Small boats are increasingly being operated at high speed in rough weather by organisations carrying out essential missions such as the military and rescue services.

Pathogenicity of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A/H5Nx Viruses in Avian and Murine Models

open access: yesPathogens
The evolution and adaptation of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses pose ongoing challenges for animal and public health. We investigated the pathogenic characteristics of the newly emerged H5N1/2022 and H5N8/2022 of clade 2.3.4.4b compared ...

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.

The dynamical strength of social ties in information spreading

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the temporal patterns of human communication and its influence on the spreading of information in social networks. The analysis of mobile phone calls of 20 million people in one country shows that human communication is bursty and happens ...

The L108I polymorphism in mouse prion protein drives spontaneous disease and enhances transmission of atypical and classical prion strains

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
A single amino acid change (L108I) combined with PrP overexpression drives spontaneous atypical prion formation in mice, enabling also efficient propagation of diverse prion strains. This model allows studying how spontaneous prion diseases arise and provides powerful tools for investigating strain emergence, transmission barriers, and mechanisms ...

Variable Protease-Sensitive Prionopathy Transmission to Bank Voles

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2019
Variably protease-sensitive prionopathy (VPSPr), a recently described human sporadic prion disease, features a protease-resistant, disease-related prion protein (resPrPD) displaying 5 fragments reminiscent of Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease ...
