Green Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles by Using Peltophorum Pterocarpum Flower Extracts

open access: yesNano Biomedicine and Engineering, 2016
A facile, green method was developed for the synthesis of stable gold nanoparticles using Peltophorum pterocarpum flower extracts as both reducing and capping agents. The influence of temperature on experiment was studied. The obtained gold nanoparticles

Transmission Infrared Spectroscopy of Ammonia Borane

open access: yesThe Journal of Undergraduate Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago, 2012
Transmission infrared spectroscopy can potentially offer unique advantages in studying the mechanisms of hydrogen loss from complex hydrides that are being considered for use as hydrogen storage materials. An apparatus that permits infrared spectra to be obtained over a temperature range of 85 to 1200 K and under either an ambient pressure of selected ...

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Engineered Mycelial Scaffolds With Tunable Ultraviolet Protection, Wettability, Thermal Stability, and Spatial Mechanics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Fungal mycelia grown into biodegradable scaffolds and infused with titania nanoparticles show enhanced ultraviolet shielding, thermal protection, and surface nonwettability. Properties were tuned by drying methods, revealing structure–function relationships.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

SPECtrophotometer for TRansmission Spectroscopy of Exoplanets (SPECTR)

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
Abstract The SPECtrophotometer for TRansmission spectroscopy of exoplanets (SPECTR) is a new low-resolution optical (3800–6850 Å) spectrophotometer installed at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory 1.8 m telescope. SPECTR is designed for observing the transmission spectra of transiting exoplanets. Unique features of SPECTR are its

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

In Situ Constructed Magnetic Core‐Shell Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework‐on‐Metal–Organic Framework Structure: an Efficient Catalyst for Peroxymonosulfate Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...
