Extending real-valued characters of finite general linear and unitary groups on elements related to regular unipotents [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
When n is odd, consider the finite general linear and unitary groups of rank n, extended by the inverse transpose automorphism. There are elements in the extended groups which square to a regular unipotent element, and we evaluate the values of irreducible characters of the extended groups on these elements.

Transposable Elements, Inflammation, and Neurological Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Transposable Elements (TE) are mobile DNA elements that can replicate and insert themselves into different locations within the host genome. Their propensity to self-propagate has a myriad of consequences and yet their biological significance is not well-

Asymmetric Inter‐Hemisphere Communication Contributes to Speech Acquisition of Toddlers with Cochlear Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The present study constructs machine‐learning models to resolve developmental relationships among auditory performance, auditory cortical processing, and functional connectivity of the bilateral language network during the first year of restored hearing. The results demonstrate that asymmetric inter‐hemisphere communication contributes significantly to

Cytological Evidence that Alternative Transposition by Ac Elements Causes Reciprocal Translocations and Inversions in Zea mays L. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
McClintock discovered the first transposable element system, the Ac/Ds system in maize. She also reported that the Ac/Ds system could cause chromosome breakage and chromosome aberrations; however, the underlying mechanism was not known.

Disentangling the Switching Behavior in Functional Connectivity Dynamics in Autism Spectrum Disorder: Insights from Developmental Cohort Analysis and Molecular‐Cellular Associations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A region‐wise functional connectivity dynamics (FCD) switching index (RFSI) identifies abnormal drivers in ASD across development, linked to salience/ventral attention, default mode, and frontoparietal networks. RFSI changes correlate with transcriptomic and neurotransmitter profiles, and supported by gene‐edited ASD monkeys.

Identification and characterization of unique to human regulatory sequences in embryonic stem cells reveal associations with transposable elements, distal enhancers, non-coding RNA, and DNA methylation-driven mechanisms of genome editing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Despite significant progress in structural and functional characterization of human genome, understanding of mechanisms underlying the genetic basis of human phenotypic uniqueness remains limited. We report that non-randomly distributed transposable element-derived sequences, most notably HERV-H/LTR7 and L1HS, are associated with creation of 99.8 ...
