This paper discusses aspects of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) in South African higher education (HE) and locates it within what it calls Southern theories. Three examples of such theories that the paper advances are Southern decolonial

Characterizations of Transversal and Fundamental Transversal Matroids [PDF]
A result of Mason, as refined by Ingleton, characterizes transversal matroids as the matroids that satisfy a set of inequalities that relate the ranks of intersections and unions of nonempty sets of cyclic flats. We prove counterparts, for fundamental transversal matroids, of this and other characterizations of transversal matroids.

Continuation of the exponentially small transversality for the splitting of separatrices to a whiskered torus with silver ratio [PDF]
We study the exponentially small splitting of invariant manifolds of whiskered (hyperbolic) tori with two fast frequencies in nearly integrable Hamiltonian systems whose hyperbolic part is given by a pendulum. We consider a torus whose frequency ratio is

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

We use essential limits inferior and superior of the nonlinear part of a discontinuous ODE to introduce some novel transversality conditions which imply that Filippov solutions are Carathéodory solutions.

Transversality conditions for infinite horizon variational problems on time scales [PDF]
We consider problems of the calculus of variations on unbounded time scales. We prove the validity of the Euler–Lagrange equation on time scales for infinite horizon problems, and a new transversality condition.

ABSTRACT Introduction Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a rare but devastating myelopathy, characterized by a high disability rate and an unfavorable prognosis. It has often been underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed as idiopathic transverse myelitis (ITM). This study aimed to describe the clinical features, radiological biomarkers, treatments, and functional ...

Meningovascular Inflammation in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy‐Related Cortical Superficial Siderosis
ABSTRACT The role of inflammation in cortical superficial siderosis (cSS), a marker of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) linked to high hemorrhage risk, is unclear. We examined 15 patients with cSS using 3 T post‐contrast vessel wall MRI (VWI) and CSF analysis.

ON NECESSARY OPTIMALITY CONDITIONS FOR RAMSEY-TYPE PROBLEMS
We study an optimal control problem in infinite time, where the integrand does not depend explicitly on the state variable. A special case of such problem is the Ramsey optimal capital accumulation in centralized economy.

Assemblage, transversality and participation in the neoliberal university
This paper develops a novel approach to what we call ‘participation as assemblage’ by drawing upon Félix Guattari’s foundational work on assemblage theory.
