Isotropic constituent layers equivalent to a transversely isotropic medium
55th EAEG Meeting, 1993A large fraction of the material occupying sedimentary basins consists of shale-like layered media. The elastic behavior of such shale formations is often found to be a type of transverse isotropy, where a) the horizontal SH velocity is greater than the vertical shear velocity, b) the horizontal P wave velocity is greater than the vertical P wave ...

Kinematic Inverse Problem for Transversely Isotropic Medium
Proceedings, 2011Inversion for Thomsen-type anisotropic parameters is considered based on surface seismic and well data. A 2D model consists of a dipping reflector in homogeneous transversely isotropic medium. The first part of the work is devoted to inversion problem stability for different datasets such as wide- and narrow-azimuth data and checkshot data along the ...

An asymmetric wave field in a transversely isotropic elastic medium
Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2007Author's summary: We consider a transversely isotropic homogeneous elastic medium excited by a point force perpendicular to the anisotropy axis. The wave field in this medium is constructed and investigated. The fronts of SV and SH waves contact with one another at a point, and the fronts are investigated in vicinity of this point. If one considers the

The electromagnetic smoke ring in a transversely isotropic medium
Geophysics, 2002Abstract The electromagnetic smoke ring describes the spatial distribution characteristics of a diffusive electromagnetic field induced in a conductive medium. It provides an intuitive basis for qualitative interpretation of electromagnetic data in both the time and frequency domains.

Offset VSP reflection imaging in a transversely isotropic medium
55th EAEG Meeting, 1993The Imperial College borehole test site in Northumberland, England consists of four 250 metre vertical holes which intersect a horizontally layered cyclical sequence of sandstones, shales and carbonates of the Namurian Upper Limestone Group. Figure 1 shows velocity logs from two of the holes which are 50 metres apart.

Interpretation of angle gathers for transversely isotropic medium
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2008, 2008Reservoir seismic applications require offset domain seismic data to be converted into angles. While it is straightforward to convert offsets to angles under the isotropic assumptions, such a transformation is complex in the presence of anisotropy.
