Albumin requirement of Treponema denticola and Treponema vincentii
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1983Treponema denticola and Treponema vincentii were found to require albumin, oleic acid, and thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) for growth. Previous studies indicated that commercial human alpha globulin, which is 50% albumin, was the only serum fraction that supported growth of these two oral treponemes.

Microbial Pathogenesis, 1994This study determined the presence of two hemolytic activities in the oral treponeme, Treponema denticola, strains ATCC 35404 (TD-4), ATCC 33520, GM-1, and MS25. Homology among Treponema denticola plasmids
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1994Three of 16 isolates of Treponema denticola were found to contain small (2.0–2.7 kb) cryptic plasmids. These were pTD1 from T. denticola ATCC 33520, pTD2 from strain T32A, and pTD3 from strain D3A1. These plasmids were characterized by restriction mapping and cloned into E. coli plasmid pUC19.

Amino acid and glucose fermentation by Treponema denticola
Archiv f�r Mikrobiologie, 1971Treponema denticola was grown in serum-containing media to which 14C-labelled compounds were added. Determinations of radioactivity in the products formed indicated that the organism fermented alanine, cysteine, glycine, serine, and glucose. Fermentation products included acetate, lactate, succinate, formate, pyruvate, ethanol, CO2, H2S, and NH3.
