Exploration of Rhenium Bisquinoline Tricarbonyl Complexes for their Antibacterial Properties

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 25, Issue 17, September 2, 2024.
This work explores the antimicrobial properties of eight newly synthesized rhenium tricarbonyl bisquinoline derivatives. Their biological properties are explored in detail with most compounds showing strong antibacterial properties but also cytotoxicity.

The Treponema pallidum immobilization test.

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2003
The authors first discuss the principle of the Treponema pallidum immobilization (TPI) test, considered both as a qualitative and as a quantitative test, and then various specific aspects of passage of the Nichols strain of treponeme in rabbit testes. A number of important technical details and modifications in the test procedure are then reviewed, and

Complexes of bacteria‐recognizing engineered phage lysin and red‐colored bacteria microparticles as optical bioprobes for simple, rapid, naked‐eye detection of syphilis‐specific antibodies from clinical samples

open access: yesVIEW, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2024.
The cell‐binding domain (CBD) of bacteriophage lysin is fused with the syphilis antigen and then bound to the red‐colored non‐culturable Staphylococcus aureus due to the natural recognition between the CBD and the bacteria, forming a bioprobe. Syphilis‐specific antibodies can recognize antigens on the bioprobes and thus induce the eye‐visible ...

Stimulus‐Responsive Hydrogels as Drug Delivery Systems for Inflammation Targeted Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 1, January 5, 2024.
Deregulated Inflammation is one of the most common diseases in human health, and its management remains a significant challenge. Notably, stimulus‐responsive hydrogels have great potential to break through the predicament faced by severe inflammations treatment.

MicroRNAs as Potential Biomarkers for the Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prognosis of Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Recent Advances and Future Directions

open access: yesDermatologic Therapy, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including condyloma acuminatum (CA), syphilis, gonorrhea, genital Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)/human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, are a group of diseases primarily transmitted through sexual contact, similar behaviors, and indirect contact.

The oral presentation of secondary syphilis among men: the evolving interplay between syphilis, HIV and prophylactic strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Syphilis has been intricately linked with HIV because of shared transmission pathways and because these infections promote each other’s transmission.

Complement subunit C3b binding to treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum during in vitro neutralization detected by immunoelectron microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The first visual demonstration of rabbit complement subunit C3b binding to the bacterium Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, Nichols strain, was detected during the in vitroin vivo neutralization test by immunoelectron microscopy (IEM) with an indirect ...
