Nondestructive tribochemistry-assisted nanofabrication on GaAs surface. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2015
AbstractA tribochemistry-assisted method has been developed for nondestructive surface nanofabrication on GaAs. Without any applied electric field and post etching, hollow nanostructures can be directly fabricated on GaAs surfaces by sliding a SiO2 microsphere under an ultralow contact pressure in humid air.

Tribochemistry as an Alternative Synthesis Pathway [PDF]

open access: yesLubricants, 2020
While reactions driven by mechanical force or stress can be labeled mechanochemical, those specifically occurring at a sliding interface inherit the name tribochemical, which stems from the study of friction and wear: tribology.

Ab initio informed machine learning potential for tribochemistry and mechanochemistry: Application for eco–friendly gallate lubricant additive [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Materials Today
Mechanochemistry and tribochemistry processes involve multiple physical/chemical interactions induced by extreme conditions including molecular confinement, high temperatures and mechanical stress applied. Simulating these processes by molecular dynamics

Perspectives of 2D MXene Tribology. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Mater, 2023
The past two years have witnessed increased experimental and theoretical efforts toward studying MXenes’ mechanical and tribological properties when used as lubricant additives, reinforcement phases in composites, or solid lubricant coatings. The most promising results in MXene tribology are summarized, future important problems to be pursued further ...

Strain-Induced Redistribution of Point Defects in ZnO Nanoparticles. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall Sci
Powder compaction generates local strain effects in ZnO nanoparticles. This alters the abundance of intrinsic point defects and impacts the semiconductor's electronic structure. Such changes were analyzed by a combination of spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations and emphasize the importance of strain effects in the design and ...

Friction and Wear Behavior of Laser-Induced Graphene Structures on Polyimide Films. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall Sci
This study presents an investigation into the friction and wear behavior of laser‐induced graphene (LIG). Introducing line patterns of different sizes with this laser scribing approach results in a lowering of the coefficient of friction. The gradual wear of the protruding LIG patterns and the formation of wear debris are explored.

Self-Lubricating Tribo-Catalytic Activity of 2D High Entropy Alloy Nanoflakes. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall
The 2D high entropy alloy (HEA) of (MoWNbTaV)0.2S2 is synthesized and investigated through ball‐on‐disk friction experiments. The unprecedentedly low average coefficients of friction (0.076) and wear rates (10−9 mm3 (N∙m)−1) under high contact pressures (0.936 GPa) within ambient conditions are demonstrated.
