Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Tribochemical Reactions Involving Phosphorus Additives at Sliding Iron Interfaces

open access: yesLubricants, 2018
We performed, for the first time to our knowledge, fully ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of additive tribochemistry in boundary lubrication conditions.

Better Together: Photoredox/Copper Dual Catalysis in Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 2, January 10, 2025.
A combination of Cu‐ATRP catalysis with photocatalysts (PCs) that absorb visible and/or NIR light exhibits synergistic action at the ppm/ppb concentration level. It leads to very well‐defined polymers with rates depending on the amount and quantum efficiency of PC but controlled polymer architecture defined by the Cu‐catalysts.

Friction and Wear Properties of Tetrahedral Si-Containing Hydrogenated Diamond-Like Carbon Coating under Lubricated Condition with Engine-Oil Containing ZnDTP and MoDTC

open access: yesTribology Online, 2017
In this study, we investigated tribological properties of “tetrahedral” Si-containing hydrogenated DLC coating (TMS coating) during sliding against steel or cast-iron lubricated with engine-oil containing MoDTC and ZnDTP additives.

On the Friction and Wear Mechanisms of Electrified Steel Contacts in CO2: Unveiling the Role of Carbon‐Rich Tribofilms Under Dry Sliding Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 14, 21 July 2026.
This study investigates friction and wear of AISI 52100 steel under dry sliding in CO2, air, and N2 atmospheres, with and without contact electrification. CO2 forms a stable carbon‐rich tribofilm that reduces friction by ∼30% and wear by ∼85%. High‐resolution TEM, EELS, and molecular dynamics reveal pressure‐dependent lubrication mechanisms, showing ...

Physicochemistry aspects on frictional interfaces

open access: yesFriction, 2017
Friction exists wherever relative motion occurs and is the main source of energy consumption. Lubrication plays a significant role in improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions, and prolonging the service life of machines. Surface interactions between
