Comparison of Intergranular Corrosion Resistance and Hardness between Nitrogen and Carbon Martensites in Stainless Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 3, Page 1538-1546, March 2026.
By applying solution heat treatment after plasma nitriding, followed by requenching and tempering, researchers successfully obtained nitrogen‐rich martensite on AISI 409. This study compares the intergranular corrosion resistance and hardness of nitrogen‐rich martensite in AISI 409 with carbon‐rich martensite in AISI 420.

The Tribocorrosion and Corrosion Properties of Thermally Oxidized Ti6Al4V Alloy in 0.9 wt.% NaCl Physiological Saline

open access: yes, 2018
Thermal oxidation of Ti6Al4V was carried out at 700 degrees C for 5 h in air atmosphere. The characteristics of morphology and structure, micro-hardness, and tribocorrosion behavior in 0.9 wt.% NaCl solution of thermally oxidized Ti6Al4V alloys were ...

Cu‐Enhanced Medium‐Entropy TiZrCoCrMo Alloys: Balancing Superior Antibacterial and Osteogenic Properties for Orthopedic Implants

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study introduces novel nonequiatomic TiZrCoCrMoCux (x = 0, 5, 10; at%) medium‐entropy alloys (MEAx) tailored for orthopedic implants, synergistically combining the biocompatibility of Ti‐based alloys, the wear resistance of CoCrMo alloys, and the antibacterial/osteogenic attributes of Cu. The alloy's microstructure, mechanical properties,

In Vivo Corrosion of Acetabular Modular Tapers Reduces Local Corrosion Resistance: Near‐Field Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy as an Indicator of the Type and Severity of Corrosion in Retrieved Hip Implants

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Retrieved hip implant components experience a range of corrosion types and severity, often on small surface areas of the taper region. Tribocorrosion‐related damage within modular taper regions and resulting changes of the oxide‐covered surface can alter the local impedance of the interface.

Advancements in Modelling the Tribocorrosion Current

open access: yesChemElectroChem
AbstractTribocorrosion in passive metals involves a complex and interactive mechanism between mechanical and electrochemical actions at a rubbing contact in a corrosive environment. The mechanical wear mechanism disrupts the passive film on the metal surface; and instantly, the metal repassivates and dissolves in the corrosive environment. This surface
