Tribocorrosion on Mars

open access: yes, 2020
Abstract Tribocorrosion is a degradation phenomenon of material surfaces subjected to the combined action of mechanical loading and corrosion attack caused by the environment. Although corrosive chemical species such as materials like chloride atoms, chlorides and perchlorates have been detected on the Martian surface, there is a lack of ...

Fretting of CoCrMo and Ti6Al4V Alloys in Modular Prostheses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Implantation of a total hip replacements (THR) is an effective intervention in the management of arthritis. Modularity at the taper junction of THR was introduced in order to improve the ease with which the surgeon could modify the length of the taper ...

Population level data on aging in periodontal and peri‐implant health—Aging is not a contraindication for periodontal or peri‐implant therapy

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Global population aging is leading to a greater retention of natural teeth into later life and an increasing prevalence of dental implant therapy. Although advanced age has traditionally been regarded as a risk factor for compromised outcomes, population level evidence remains lacking.

Reduction of Tribocorrosion Products When using the Platform-Switching Concept [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The reduced marginal bone loss observed when using the platform-switching concept may be the result of reduced amounts of tribocorrosion products released to the peri-implant tissues. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the tribocorrosion

Ti6Al4V‐Bioglass‐Copper Composites for Load‐Bearing Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 13, 3 April 2026.
We have designed and manufactured a novel Ti64‐based composite by adding 45S5 bioglass (BG) and copper (Cu). Adding BG on titanium improves wear resistance and biocompatibility, whereas Cu addition improves mechanical strength while providing inherent lifelong bacterial resistance.

Tribocorrosion behavior of bio-functionalized highly porous titanium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Titanium and its alloys are widely used in orthopedic and dental implants, however, some major clinical concerns such as poor wear resistance, lack of bioactivity, and bone resorption due to stress shielding are yet to be overcome.

Enhanced Surface Properties and In Vitro Corrosion Tests of Ti─Nb─Sn Coating on CoCrMo Alloy for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2026.
Ti–Nb–Sn thin films were deposited on CoCrMo alloy by DC magnetron sputtering to enhance surface performance for biomedical applications. The coating significantly improved corrosion resistance in PBS by reducing corrosion current density and increasing polarization resistance. Tribological tests under dry and PBS conditions revealed a marked reduction

Corrosion, wear, and tribocorrosion behavior of a novel biomedical implant Ti-20Zr-10Nb-4Ta alloy

open access: yesNext Materials
For a new type biomedical titanium alloy, the tribocorrosion should be investigated. So, in this paper, the tribocorrosion behavior of the Ti-20Zr-10Nb-4Ta alloy in Hank’s solution was investigated, and the corrosion and wear behaviors were also ...
