Analysis of Gene Expression in Aedes aegypti Suggests Changes in Early Genetic Control of Mosquito Development

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti, a critical vector for tropical diseases, poses significant challenges for studying its embryogenesis due to difficulties in removing its rigid chorion and achieving effective fixation for in situ hybridization. Here, we present novel methodologies for fixation, dechorionation, DAPI staining, and in situ hybridization, enabling ...

A family of chemoreceptors in Tribolium castaneum (Tenebrionidae: Coleoptera). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2007
Chemoperception in invertebrates is mediated by a family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCR). To date nothing is known about the molecular mechanisms of chemoperception in coleopteran species.

Red Flour Beetle Response to Traps with Prior Captures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum) is a major pest of food facilities such as flour mills and is often monitored using pitfall type traps with a food oil and pheromone attractant.

Toxicity nanoinsecticide based on clove essential oil against Tribolium castaneum (Herbst)

open access: yesJournal of pesticide science, 2020
This study aimed to characterize nanoparticles loaded with clove (Syzygium aromaticum) essential oil-based polyethylene glycol (PEG) and to know their insecticidal activity against red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum).

RNA degradomics and proteomics reveal the mechanism of dsProsβ1‐mediated proteasome targeting in Psylliodes chrysocephala

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
RNA degradomics revealed dsProsβ1‐derived siRNA‐mediated mRNA cleavage events, mainly at uracil‐guanine and adenine‐adenine pairs. Proteasome inhibition via dsProsβ1 increased mitochondrial and cytoskeletal proteins while reducing translation‐related and mRNA‐binding proteins.

The Effects of Insecticide Treated Netting on Male-Female Interactions in Red Flour Beetles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Courtship behaviors take place before and after copulation for the purpose of stimulating the female (Evardsson & Arnqvist 2000). Females will mate with different males within minutes of the first copulation (Pai &Yan 2003), with males showing a ...

Transcription of satellite DNAs in insects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Chromatin condensation is an important regulatory mechanism of gene silencing as well as gene activation for the hundreds of functional protein genes harbored in heterochromatic regions of different insect species.

The transformer gene controls sexual development in Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The transformer gene plays a key role in the genetic pathway for sexual development in Drosophila suzukii Abstract The genetic network of sex determination in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster was investigated in great detail. Such knowledge not only advances our understanding of the evolution and regulation of sexual dimorphism in insects ...

Oviposition Decisions by Red Flour Beetle [Tribolium castaneum] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The red flour beetle [Tribolium castaneum] and the confused flour beetle [Tribolium confusum] are very important flour pest. We tested if the red flour beetle can discriminate between flour infested by the same species or congeneric species and lay ...
