TWO NEW SUBSPECIES OF TROPAEOLUM (TROPAEOLACEAE) FROM THE IV REGION (COQUIMBO), CHILE

open access: yes, 2020
Two new subspecies of Tropaeolum hookerianum Barn. are described. Apart from T. hookerianum subsp. austropurpureum presented here, only one other Andean-Pacific temperate Tropaeolum, T. azureum Bert. ex Colla, has blue to purple flowers. The second taxon,

Tuber and Root Starches: Molecular and Physicochemical Properties

open access: yesStarch - Stärke, Volume 78, Issue 2, February 2026.
Dale dale, Mashua, and Pituca starches exhibited distinct amorphous and ordered structural regions. Among them, Dale dale starch showed the highest degree of crystallinity. ABSTRACT Starches extracted from different botanical sources can be used in a wide range of food applications; however, understanding the relationships among their properties is ...

Systematics, host plants, and life histories of three new Phyllocnistis species from the central highlands of Costa Rica (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae, Phyllocnistinae)

open access: yesZooKeys, 2009
Three new species of Phyllocnistis Zeller are described from the central highlands of Costa Rica: Phyllocnistis drimiphaga sp. n., P. maxberryi sp. n., and P. tropaeolicola sp. n. Larvae of all three are serpentine leaf miners.

From Local Biodiversity to Global Food Security: Antioxidant Evidence of Unconventional Edible Plants (2020–2025)

open access: yesJournal of Food Process Engineering, Volume 49, Issue 2, February 2026.
This scoping review (2020–2025) compiles validated evidence on the antioxidant potential of unconventional edible plants (PANCs). Thirty species showed high phenolic content and strong radical‐scavenging activity, reinforcing their role as natural antioxidants and sustainable alternatives to synthetic additives within biodiversity‐based food systems ...

Natural Products Targeting the EGFR/HER2 Axis in Tumorigenesis: Interpretation of Molecular Mechanisms and Recent Insights Into Synergistic Strategies for Cancer Therapy

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
Schematic overview illustrating the anticancer mechanisms of selected natural products (resveratrol, quercetin, berberine) targeting EGFR and HER2 signaling pathways in tumor cells. These compounds inhibit receptor activation and downstream oncogenic cascades, including PI3K/Akt/mTOR, MAPK/ERK, and STAT3 pathways.

The Senescence of Detached Leaves of Tropaeolum [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1985
The senescence of detached Tropaeolum majus leaves was compared with that described earlier for Avena. Tropaeolum was chosen as being not only a dicot but also as having a nearly circular leaf, thus needing only the smallest minimum of wounding, since wounding delays the loss of chlorophyll and protein in darkness.

Here, There and Everywhere: Widespread Non‐Native Plants in the World's Urban Ecosystems

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 34, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim To (a) produce a list of the most widespread naturalised non‐native plant species across cities of the world; (b) explore whether cities on different continents are invaded by the same group of widespread naturalised species; and (c) elucidate the origins of the most widespread naturalised urban species. Location Global.
