Tropane alkaloid biosynthesis: a centennial review

Natural Product Reports, 2021
From the first ambitious imagination of tropinone biosynthesis mechanism in plants published in 1917 to the de novo production of scopolamine in yeast realized in 2020, what did we learn from this long story of more than 100 years old?

Conformation of Tropane Alkaloids

Nature, 1953
IT has become generally accepted that cyclohexane compounds1 and pyranosides2 possess the chair conformation. By analogy we may assume that piperidine and its derivatives also exist in the chair conformation. Starting from this assumption, it is possible to determine the conformation of tropane alkaloids.

Complexation of tropane alkaloids by cyclodextrins

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2019
Complexes of atropine, homatropine, scopolamine, and ipratropium with cyclodextrins were investigated by NMR and capillary electrophoresis. It has been demonstrated that tropane alkaloids form complexes with β- and γ-cyclodextrins of 1:1 stoichiometry.

Biosynthesis of Tropane Alkaloids

1989
As with other secondary products, the biosynthesis of tropane alkaloids in plants has been extensively investigated by the use of labelled precursors (for a review, see [11]). Recent advances in the techniques of alkaloid analysis and enzyme purification, however, have now made it possible to isolate and characterize biosynthetic enzymes in the pathway,

Analysis of tropane and related alkaloids

Journal of Chromatography A, 2002
The current methods for tropane alkaloid chromatographic separation and determination are summarised. The alkaloids included are: the medicinally applied tropic acid esters hyoscyamine and scopolamine and their derivatives, cocaine and derivatives, the metabolites and degradation products of these compounds occurring in plant material, calystegines as ...
