Finerenone, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart failure with mildly reduced or preserved ejection fraction: A prespecified analysis of the FINEARTS‐HF trial

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The beneficial effects of finerenone in patients with heart failure (HF) and mildly reduced or preserved ejection fraction were consistent, regardless of a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) status. BMI, body mass index; LVEF, left ventricular ejection fraction; NT‐proBNP, N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide.

Comparison of static and rolling logistic regression models on predicting invasive mechanical ventilation or death from COVID‐19—A retrospective, multicentre study

open access: yesThe Clinical Respiratory Journal, Volume 17, Issue 1, Page 40-49, January 2023., 2023
When a disease or treatment is rapidly changing, traditional (static) predictive models may lose their accuracy. We show that in 7041 patients of whom 534 (7.6%) required invasive mechanical ventilation or died within 14 days that rolling logistic regression models improved both discrimination and the areas under the precision‐recall curves—all p < 0 ...

Mitochondrial targets in ischaemic heart disease and heart failure, and their potential for a more efficient clinical translation. A scientific statement of the ESC Working Group on Cellular Biology of the Heart and the ESC Working Group on Myocardial Function

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Improving clinical translation of mitoprotective therapies. 31P MRI, phosphorus‐31 magnetic resonance imaging; hiPSC‐CM, human‐induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived cardiomyocyte; IHD, ischaemic heart disease. Abstract Acute myocardial infarction (MI) remains a major cause of death and disability worldwide.

Intensive ultrafiltration strategy restores kidney transplant candidacy for patients with echocardiographic evidence of pulmonary hypertension

open access: yesClinical Transplantation, Volume 36, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Introduction Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is prevalent in those with end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD) and poses a barrier to kidney transplant due to its association with poor outcomes. Studies examining these adverse outcomes are limited and often utilize echocardiographic measurements of pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) instead of the

Heart failure and obesity: Translational approaches and therapeutic perspectives. A scientific statement of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Obesity and heart failure (HF) represent two growing pandemics. In the general population, obesity affects one in eight adults and is linked with an increased risk for HF. Obesity is even more common in patients with HF, where it complicates the diagnosis of HF and is linked with worse symptoms and impaired exercise capacity. Over the past few
