An enhanced approach for weaving area capacity estimation combining high‐fidelity simulation and interpretable machine learning

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 25, Page 4273-4295, 20 October 2025.
Abstract Accurately assessing weaving area capacity is critical for optimizing traffic management. However, transportation agencies face a persistent challenge: Existing capacity models often inadequately characterize vehicle weaving behaviors and fail to quantify the interactions between influencing factors.

The Effect Of Delay Times On The Optimal Velocity Traffic Flow Behavior

open access: yes, 2005
We have numerically investigated the effect of the delay times $\tau_f$ and $\tau_s$ of a mixture of fast and slow vehicles on the fundamental diagram of the optimal velocity model.

Truck Platooning on Flexible Pavements in Illinois

open access: yes, 2021
Truck platoons have many benefits over traditional truck mobility. Truck platoons have the potential to improve safety and reduce fuel consumption between 5% and 15%, based on platoon configuration. In Illinois, trucks carry more than 50% of freight tonnage and constitute 25% of the traffic on interstates.

Urban Transformations, Emergencies, and Disasters in Los Angeles: Constructing Civilian Unpreparedness as a Public Policy Issue (1940–1980)

open access: yesRisk, Hazards &Crisis in Public Policy, Volume 16, Issue 3, September 2025.
ABSTRACT This article explores the sociohistorical construction of civilian unpreparedness as a public policy issue in Los Angeles, arguing that it emerged not as a neutral response to escalating urban risks, but as a mechanism through which actors negotiated power dynamics amid urban transformations between 1940 and 1980.

Single-vehicle data of highway traffic: microscopic description of traffic phases

open access: yes, 2002
We present a detailed analysis of single-vehicle data which sheds some light on the microscopic interaction of the vehicles. Besides the analysis of free flow and synchronized traffic the data sets especially provide information about wide jams which ...

Estimation of passing sight distance required for operation of truck platooning on two-lane highways in North America

open access: yesIATSS Research
The most well-known benefits of heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) platooning include fuel savings and emission reductions. In addition, HCV platooning under SAE automation level 4 or 5 can mitigate the truck driver shortage in North America by eliminating ...

Automatic and efficient driving strategies while approaching a traffic light

open access: yes, 2014
Vehicle-infrastructure communication opens up new ways to improve traffic flow efficiency at signalized intersections. In this study, we assume that equipped vehicles can obtain information about switching times of relevant traffic lights in advance ...

Planning and Control Strategies for Truck Platooning: A Benefit-Driven Literature Review

open access: yesFuture Transportation
Truck platooning refers to a group of heavy-duty vehicles travelling in close succession through cooperative driving technologies and inter-vehicle communication. This transport solution is increasingly investigated as a promising strategy to enhance the
