Positive solutions for nonlinear parametric singular Dirichlet problems [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of Mathematical Sciences, 2019
We consider a nonlinear parametric Dirichlet problem driven by the p-Laplace differential operator and a reaction which has the competing effects of a parametric singular term and of a Carathéodory perturbation which is (p − 1)-linear near + ∞.

Models for truncated counts [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Econometrics, 1991
AbstractThis paper examines a class of maximum‐likelihood regression estimators for count data from truncated samples. Estimators for the truncated Poisson and negative binomial distributions are illustrated. Simulation results are given to illustrate the magnitude of the bias that may result from the failure to account for overdispersion in truncated ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Diminutives: Exceptions to Harmonic Uniformity

open access: yesCatalan Journal of Linguistics, 2016
Front-back harmony in Hungarian is governed by the root of words: it disregards suffixes in most cases. That is, a back-vowelled root (B) followed by any number of neutral-vowelled suffixes (N) will take a back-vowelled suffix (B+N+N+B), but a root with ...

Caspase-1 causes truncation and aggregation of the Parkinson’s disease-associated protein α-synuclein

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2016
Significance The aggregation of α-synuclein (aSyn) is a pathological hallmark of Parkinson’s disease. Here we show that the enzymatic component of the innate inflammation system, known as caspase-1, hydrolyzes aSyn, rendering it aggregation-prone.

Tidal truncation of inclined circumstellar and circumbinary discs in young stellar binaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Recent observations have shown that circumstellar and circumbinary discs in young stellar binaries are often misaligned with respect to the binary orbital plane.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

The analysis of truncated vocatives in Taviano (Salentino) Italian

open access: yesCatalan Journal of Linguistics, 2019
This paper documents and discusses various descriptive generalizations and alternative analyses of the vocative truncation found in the Southern Italian dialect of Taviano that is illustrated by such formations as Filoména > Filomé.

Modeling and measurements of angular truncation for an aerosol albedometer [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2012
In this work, we examine the angular truncation behavior and present correction factors for the aerosol albedometer previously developed in our laboratory. This new instrument makes simultaneous measurement of extinction and scattering coefficients (bext
