Photosensitization by the trypanocidal agent crystal violet. Type i versus type II reactions
Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1986The photoreduction of crystal violet to a carbon-centered radical was detected directly by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy under anaerobic conditions. The linewidth (0.9 G) of this radical was less broad than the linewidth (11.0 G) of the free radical obtained in Trypanosoma cruzi incubations.

The available drugs for treating Leishmaniasis and American trypanosomiasis have high toxicity and multiple side effects, among other problems. More effective and less toxic treatments are urgently needed. A series of chalcones that contained a prenyloxy or geranyloxy substituent was synthesized and characterized. Each substituent was attached to the A

The chromatographic isolation and characterisation of the four compounds present in the quaternary phenanthridine veterinary trypanocidal agent, isometamidium chloride hydrochloride (ISM), is reported. The isolated compounds were unambiguously characterised using spectroscopic (NMR, UV, IR and MS) methods as 3-amino-8-[3-(3-carbamimidoyl-phenyl ...

Novel fluorinated quaternary ammonium salts and their in vitro activity as trypanocidal agents
Medicinal Chemistry Research, 2019As the impact of aromatic rings and fluorine substituents in commercial drugs is attributed to their electronic distribution and structure rigidity that determine metabolic stability and toxicity, 30 quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) of the form [X-CH2N(CH3)2(CH2)nCH = C(Ar2)]+I− (where X=H, Cl or I, n = 2 or 3, and Ar = m-C6H4CF3, p-C6H4CF3, m-C6H4F, p ...

This study has investigated the effect of phenobarbitone (PB), 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC), and deltamethrin (DM) on the metabolism of two trypanocidal diamidines; pentamidine isethionate and diminazene aceturate in freshly isolated Sprague-Dawley rat hepatocytes.

Influence of Pentamidine and Two New Trypanocidal Agents (DAPI, DIPI) on Liver Metabolism of Mice
Pharmacology & Toxicology, 1991Abstract:The effects of equimolar doses (65.5 μmol/kg intraperitoneally) of three trypanocidal compounds, i.e. pentamidine, 6‐amidino‐2‐(amidinophenyl)indole (DAPI), and 6‐imidazolino‐2‐(imidazolinophenyl)indole (DIPI) on some parameters of liver carbohydrate, lipid and energy metabolism have been assessed in male NMRI mice. Most prominent effects were

[Plasma kinetics of a spiroarsorane trypanocidal agent in sheep trypanosomiasis].
Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique (1990), 1990In a previous study, spiroarsoranes were very effective against both the two pathogenic phases of the experimental sheep trypanosomiasis. In this paper, the authors had studied the plasmatic pharmacokinetics of these compounds. Data had shown one peak 10 min after injection of a 3 months inoculated sheep, and 90 min for the control sheep. Spiroarsorane

Synthesis and in vitro trypanocidal activity of some novel iron chelating agents.
Arzneimittel-Forschung, 1997This report describes the syntheses and in vitro trypanocidal activity of a number of iron (III) chelators against epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi. The compounds examined included a number of lipophilic N-alkyl derivatives of 2-ethyl- and 2-methyl-3-hydroxypyrid-4-ones, N,N'-bis(o-hydroxybenzyl)-(+/-)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane ...
