Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1996The Anopheles gambiae gene encoding tryptophan oxygenase, a homolog of the Drosophila melanogaster vermilion gene, has been molecularly cloned and characterized. Unlike Drosophila, where it is X-linked, the A. gambiae gene maps to chromosome 2R, subdivision 12E, by in situ hybridization to the polytene chromosomes.

Premature induction of hepatic tryptophan oxygenase
Neurochemical Research, 1976Subcutaneous administration of hydrocortisone acetate to the newborn rat produces a premature induction of hepatic tryptophan oxygenase consisting of a transient rise in activity 6-8 h after treatment, followed by a second sustained rise beginning 40 h later, which plateaus at 10 days of age.

Ethyl alcohol and liver tryptophan oxygenase
Biochemical Medicine, 1976Abstract The activity of the enzyme tryptophan oxygenase increases after an acute dose of alcohol, reaching the maximum level 5 hr after injection. This is true for both the apoenzyme and the holoenzyme. The activity comes back to near normal level 9 hr after injection.

Chlorpromazine inhibition of tryptophan oxygenase
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1971Abstract The effect of chlorpromazine on the activity of liver tryptophan oxygenase was examined in rat liver homogenates and in perfused rat livers. Chlorpromazine was found to inhibit the enzyme in the assay system (50 per cent inhibition at 3 · 10 −4 M).
