The tuberculin test

Veterinary Microbiology, 1994
Tuberculin tests in general use today rely on the response to intradermal injections of tuberculin with assessment of the injection site for swelling at 72 hours post injection. Estimates of the sensitivity of tuberculin tests range from 68-95% while specificity is estimated to be 96-99%.

The Tuberculin Test

Pediatrics, 1974
The tuberculin test is a major diagnostic tool. A positive reaction to the tuberculin test indicates the presence of tuberculous infection, but the degree of activity, if any, or the severity of the disease process cannot be thus determined. There are also other limitations of the test as noted later in this discussion.

Sensitivity to Tuberculin

Nature, 1951
WHILE a reasonable account can now be given of most stages of the mechanism of the urticarial type of skin response to injected antigens, the observed facts concerning the tuberculin or delayed type of reaction cannot yet be adequately explained. One of the main difficulties has been the failure to demonstrate circulating antibodies by the classical ...
