Effect of glycemic control on tuberculosis treatment outcomes among patients with tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus comorbidity can lead to poor TB treatment outcomes, particularly with uncontrolled blood glucose levels. Understanding the impact of glycemic control on TB treatment outcomes is essential. Objective To synthesise evidence on the association between glycemic control and TB treatment outcomes ...

Epithelial Atg5 Deficiency Intensifies Caspase‐11 Activation, Fueling Extracellular mtDNA Release to Activate cGAS–STING–NLRP3 Axis in Macrophages During Pseudomonas Infection

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 7, July 2025.
This work illuminates the essential role of epithelial ATG5 in defending against P. aeruginosa. Atg5 deficiency impairs bacterial clearance and aggravates inflammation via AKT/PI3K/NF‐κB, inflammasome activation, and pyroptosis. Mechanistically, impaired mitophagy intensifies mitochondrial damage.

Human Alveolar Macrophages Detect SARS‐CoV‐2 Envelope Protein Through TLR2 and TLR4 and Secrete Cytokines in Response

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 175, Issue 3, Page 391-401, July 2025.
Alveolar macrophages (AMs)—the most numerous immune cells of the lung—respond to viral infections by secreting cytokines to summon other immune cells. We investigated whether AMs recognize SARS‐CoV‐2 proteins and how they respond. AMs did not sense spike protein but did recognize envelope protein via the pattern recognition receptors TLR2 and TLR4 ...
