Diagnosis of tuberculosis and other diseases caused by mycobacteria
Infection, 1997The adequate diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis depends on many events, including rapid pathogen detection, patient isolation, species identification, and drug susceptibility testing. Well trained staff, using state-of-the-art technology, are necessary in the mycobacteriology laboratory to produce timely results that are necessary for the patients'

Immunology of M. tuberculosis and Other Mycobacteria
1994More than 25% of the world’s population has been infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Initial infection with M. tuberculosis is usually self-limited and inap-parent. It is associated with the subsequent acquisition of tuberculin skin test reactivity in vivo, blastogenic T-cell responses to mycobacterial proteins in vitro, and the coincident ...

Genitourinary infections caused by mycobacteria other than mycobacterium tuberculosis
Tubercle, 1989Non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections are usually found in the respiratory tract: infection confined to the genito-urinary system is rare. We report two patients with isolated genito-urinary infections, one due to Mycobacterium chelonae and the other to Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare.

Infection of Synovial Tissues by Mycobacteria Other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1967An additional six cases of mycobacterial infection other than by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and involving synovial structures are reported. Follow-up is included on a previously reported case. Five of the patients in the present series had involvement of tendon sheaths of the hand, wrist, and forearm.

Betalactamase Activity in Mycobacteria Other ThanM. tuberculosis
Journal of Chemotherapy, 1995Beta-lactamase activity was studied in 142 non-tuberculosis mycobacterial strains. The distribution according to species was as follows: four M. avium, 14 M. chelonae, 10 M. fortuitum, 59 M. gordonae, 55 M. kansasii. The spectrum of hydrolysis of the beta-lactamases was screened using an acidimetric method and the characterization was performed by ...

The Role of Mycobacteria Other Than Tuberculosis (MOTT) in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1994The purpose of this study was to estimate the frequency of and evaluate the clinical impact of pulmonary mycobacterial infections among cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. 185 CF patients aged 2.2-38.5 years were screened by sputum samples and by intracutaneous skin tests against tuberculin and sensitins produced from Mycobacterium chelonae subsp. abscessus,

Mycobacteria Other Than Mycobacterium tuberculosis
2010The PCR assay targeting the 16S rRNA gene, for the detection and identification of mycobacteria, is modeled from a paper by Boddinghaus et al. [1]. The assay is a nested double amplification PCR utilyzing primers Mb246 + Mb Reverse 247 (R247), to amplify a 590 bp amplicon. Mb246 is a universal primer for bacterial 16SrDNA whereas MbR247 is specific for

Mycobacteria Other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Review of Microbiologic and Clinical Aspects
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1987The rate of isolation of mycobacteria other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MOTT) has increased over the past several years; in some areas the isolation rate for Mycobacterium avium-Mycobacterium intracellulare has surpassed that for M. tuberculosis.

Therapy with antituberculosis drugs is not indicated in patients with isolated cervical lymph node infection due to mycobacteria other than tuberculosis (MOTT); resectional surgery is the treatment of choice in these cases. The reason for this study was a striking increase in the incidence of this disease in children referred to the University Hospital

[Infections with mycobacteria other than M. tuberculosis in children].
Ugeskrift for laeger, 1996We reviewed case records of 22 children who were diagnosed as having nontuberculous mycobacterial infection. All children were previously healthy. In 20 cases the infection presented as cervical lymphadenitis. The patients were between ten months and 14 years old, and two thirds were between 13 and 36 months old.
