Isolation of Tumor Cell Colonies in Tissue Culture.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1958
SummaryA procedure is described for isolation of colonies of mammalian cells in tissue culture. Cell lines of a mouse ependymoma obtained in this way differed in growth characteristics, in capacity to grow, in vivo, and in susceptibility to Theiler's GDVII virus.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Influence of polyamine analogue DENSPM on cell growth of human SNB19 glioblastoma cells

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2011
Objective To investigate the influence of polyamine analogue DENSPM (N1, N11-diethylnorspermine) on cell growth of human SNB19 glioblastoma cells. Methods DENSPM was added into the culture medium of SNB19 cells. MTS assay was used to assess cell survival

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Heterogeneous cancer-associated fibroblast population potentiates neuroendocrine differentiation and castrate resistance in a CD105-dependent manner. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Heterogeneous prostatic carcinoma-associated fibroblasts (CAF) contribute to tumor progression and resistance to androgen signaling deprivation therapy (ADT).

Aplidin (plitidepsin) is a novel anti-myeloma agent with potent anti-resorptive activity mediated by direct effects on osteoclasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Despite recent progress in its treatment, Multiple Myeloma (MM) remains incurable and its associated bone disease persists even after complete remission.

Tumor ⁃ associated macrophages secrete TGFBI to promote malignancy of glioma stem cells in vitro

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2019
Objective To investigate the expression heterogeneity of transforming growth factor⁃β⁃induced protein (TGFBI) in glioblastoma (GBM) multiform and the mechanism of its promotion on malignancy of glioma stem cells (GSCs) in vitro.

Blue light irradiation inhibits the M2 polarization of the cancer-associated macrophages in colon cancer

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Recent studies have shown that blue light-emitting diode (LED) light has anti-tumor effects, suggesting the possibility of using visible light in cancer therapy.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
