Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in early breast cancer

open access: yesThe Breast, 2018
Immunoediting represents a complex and dynamic process involving cancer and immune system cells, composed by three intertwined phases: elimination, equilibrium and escape. A large number of immune cell subtypes are involved, each playing a peculiar role in interacting with cancer cells: cytotoxic CD8+ T cells play a main role in cancer killing by ...

A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics approach to find potential serum prognostic biomarkers in glioblastoma patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics analysis of serum samples from GB patients and healthy controls showed that high levels of IL1R2 and low levels of CRTAC1 and HRG in serum are associated with poor survival outcomes for GB patients. These circulating proteins could serve as biomarkers for the prediction of outcome in patients with GB.

Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes and Macrophages Improve Survival in Microsatellite Unstable Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Due to the loss of DNA repair mechanisms in colorectal cancer (CRC) with microsatellite instability (MSI), somatic mutations accumulate within DNA; making them more prone to attack by tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) and macrophages.

Epigenetic profiling of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesTranslational Cancer Research, 2017
Blocking T cell inhibitory signals, or “checkpoint blockade”, has provided unprecedented clinical results for therapy of cancer (1). Antibodies that block negative interactions between programmed death-1 (PD-1) and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) allow activation of T cells that recognize tumor antigens and promote immune destruction of the tumor. To

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Tumor-reprogrammed resident T cells resist radiation to control tumors

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Lymphocytes are considered one of the most radiosensitive cell types in the body. Here the authors show that unlike circulating lymphocytes, tumor-infiltrating T cells survive therapeutic doses of irradiation, remaining functional and contributing to ...

Prognostic Impact of Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes and Neutrophils on Survival of Patients with Upfront Resection of Pancreatic Cancer

open access: yesCancers, 2019
In patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the tumor microenvironment consists of cellular and stromal components that influence prognosis. Hence, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) may predict prognosis more precisely than conventional

Small modifier, big decision: switching to SUMO mode adds weight to cancer stemness in mammary tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Inhibition of protein SUMOylation has been shown to block tumorigenesis; however, the specific mechanisms by which SUMOylation controls the tumor‐initiating capacities remain elusive. Li et al. describe the role of Etv1 SUMOylation in cancer stem cells using mouse models of mammary gland tumorigenesis.

Cancer-immune interactions in ER-positive breast cancers: PI3K pathway alterations and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research, 2019
The presence of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) is correlated with good prognosis and outcome after (immuno)therapy in triple-negative and HER2-positive breast cancer. However, the role of TILs in luminal breast cancer is less clear.

Pericytes change function depending on glioblastoma vicinity: emphasis on immune regulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pericytes alter their transcriptome depending on their proximity to the tumor core. In the tumor core, pericytes display a more active state with higher communication strength but with lower immune activation potential and a shift toward extracellular matrix production.
