Turbulence Models Application in Air Flow of Crossflow Turbine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2018
Using the CFD method as the initial analysis for experiments has more benefits, including saving time and costs. The variable of flow parameters and geometry can be easily developed to get the desired results.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

SIMULATION OF TURBULENCE AS A «VORTEX BACKFILL»

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Проблемы энергетики, 2018
The new method of simulation and the turbulent flow research, based on representation about turbulence as a current through «vortex backfill» is offered. The method of local fluctuations offered earlier is applied to its realization.

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Numerical Simulation on Temperature Field of Hot Rolled Q215 Steel Bar Cooling by Turbulent Flow Process

open access: yesTeshugang, 2007
Tempered martensite can be formed at surface of bar to increase its mechanical properties by higher efficient tube type turbulent flow cooling system after hot rolling of bar products.

How vegetation in flows modifies the turbulent mixing and spreading of jets

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
While studies on vegetated channel flows have been developed in many research centers, studies on jets interacting with vegetation are still rare.

The photoswitchable cannabinoid azo‐HU308 enables optical control of Ca2+ dynamics in INS‐1 β‐cells via off‐target effects on TRPC channels

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Computation of turbulent flows using an extended k-epsilon turbulence closure model [PDF]

open access: yes
An extended kappa-epsilon turbulence model is proposed and tested with successful results. An improved transport equation for the rate of dissipation of the turbulent kinetic energy, epsilon, is proposed.

Autophagosome marker, LC3, is released extracellularly via several distinct pathways

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study establishes a novel HiBiT‐tagging system for ultrasensitive detection of LC3, revealing multiple pathways for its extracellular secretion. It demonstrates that LC3 is released via both autophagy‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms, including a novel route for nonlipidated LC3‐I.
