Trading Energy Savings and Network Performance in Reconfigurable TWDM-PONs
Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2015In time and wavelength division multiplexed (TWDM) passive optical networks (PONs), energy savings at the optical line termination (OLT) are achievable by dynamically allocating the number of active wavelengths in the network and by turning off unutilized OLT transceivers.

Energy Efficient TWDM Multi-PON System With Wavelength Relocation
Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2014Power consumption in current communication networks including the access networks is increasing rapidly; energy efficiency is therefore one of the key design considerations in the next generation passive optical networks (PONs). In this paper, we investigate how a wavelength relocation mechanism can reduce power consumption and deployment cost of ...

Economic Analysis of TWDM PONs: A Sustainability and Policy-Making Perspective
Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2019The time- and wavelength-division-multiplexed (TWDM) passive optical network (PON) is a popular choice for future access technology. However, a comprehensive understanding of its economics is still beyond the reach of the current literature. For example, it is not clearly understood which techno-economic factors make this technology sustainable ...

ONU Aggregation Schemes for TWDM PONs With Multiple Tuning Ranges
Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2017Time- and wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical networks (TWDM PONs) have been regarded as a promising solution to meet the ever-increasing bandwidth demands of optical access networks. To reduce the investment on deploying TWDM PONs, operators can share the network infrastructures, isolated through wavelengths and timeslots.

Fault-tolerable and SLA-supportive architecture for TWDM-PON systems
Photonic Network Communications, 2015In this paper, a protection architecture that can be applied to NG-PON2 system, or TWDM-PON, is proposed. NG-PON2 system provides bandwidth as much as 80 Gbps in downstream, and the system failure may cause a serious problem. Therefore, its protection becomes more important issue. We solved this problem by making a pair of OLTs protect with each other.

Experimental Demonstration of a Symmetric 40-Gb/s TWDM-PON
Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013We demonstrate a symmetric 40-Gb/s TWDM-PON system using a single tunable optical filter for both downstream wavelength selection and chirp management of upstream directly modulated laser, which supports 25-km feeder fiber and 1:256 splitting ratio.

ITU TWDM-PON Module for ns-3 Network Simulator
2019Optical fiber access systems are one of the driving forces behind the success of the Internet. Time- and wavelength- division multiplexing passive optical network (TWDM-PON) is regarded as the key technology for future Internet access networks. In this paper, we propose an ITU TWDM-PON module for the ns-3 network simulator and describe its concept and ...
