Demonstration of TWDM-PON Backward Compatibility with Conventional GPON

Wireless Personal Communications, 2016
Time Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network (TWDM-PON) has been opted being a key driver for Next Generation-Passive Optical Network2 (NG-PON2). This paper proposed the option of backward compatibility of TWDM-PON with conventional Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) a long with Radio Frequency Video Overlay has been demonstrated ...

Dynamic wavelength sharing in Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexed PONs (TWDM-PONs)

2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015
Energy efficiency has long been an important design consideration in Passive Optical Networks. Over the years, significant efforts have been seen in reducing the power consumption on user side equipment, i.e., Optical Network Units. As the capacity of PONs are increasing in terms of the number of wavelength channels and the line-rate, it is equally ...

Investigation on Burst-mode Inter-channel Crosstalk in XG-PON and TWDM-PON

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
Inter-channel crosstalk of burst-mode upstream in XG-PON and TWDM-PON are investigated. Differential optical path loss and ASE noise from 256 ONUs contribute to increasing power penalty. ASE noise filtering mitigates the impairment and ensures negligible penalty.

Flexible TWDM PONs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
A flexible TWDM PON is demonstrated with error-free performance using enhanced CFP transceiver for OLT and tunable SFP+ transceiver for ONUs. Such PON system allows pay-as-you-grow deployment, supports load balancing and achieves significant power saving.

Dynamic scheduling in TWDM-PONs using game theory

Optical Switching and Networking, 2019
Abstract Efficient utilization of Passive Optical Networks (PONs) within a broad region of high user numbers, heavy bandwidth demand and large-scale central servicing stations seems a challenging task in explosive high-bandwidth environments. New Generation PONs (NG-PONs) enable multiple channels in both directions and they seem promising towards ...

Delay fairness in reconfigurable and energy efficient TWDM PON

Computer Networks, 2016
In Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexed (TWDM) Passive Optical Networks (PONs), dynamically (de)activating Optical Subscriber Units (OSUs) and assigning Optical Network Units (ONUs) to the active OSUs helps improving the OLT energy efficiency and balancing the network load. However, energy efficiency improvement is traded with a delay increase due ...

Reconfiguration Triggering Optimization in TWDM PONs with Fluctuating Load

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016
Reconfiguring TWDM PONs, based on network load, trades OLT energy efficiency improvement with potential average frame delay increase. This paper proves, both through simulations and experiments, that an optimum time exists for triggering reconfiguration that minimizes average frame delay penalty.

Cross-talk in TWDM-PON beyond NG-PON2

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015
We assess the influence of cross-talk on the capability of upgradability of TWDMPON beyond NG-PON2 for a higher number of connected customers and for a higher number of wavelength channels using experiments and simulations.

A novel TWDM-PON architecture with control channel

2014 12th International Conference on Optical Internet 2014 (COIN), 2014
In this paper, we present a novel TWDM-PON architecture. A 1G control channel is added to control all ONUs. Then, we establish a flexible management framework, including bandwidth assignment mechanism, auto-discovery process and ONU migration mechanism.

A Burst-mode Optical Amplifier for TWDM-PON

2019 18th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2019
One of the critical challenges for TWDM-PON is that the optical amplifiers need to run in the burst-mode, with an up to 40 dB dynamic range. This presentation discusses the corresponding requirements and solutions.
