Strip formation and process stability in twin roll strip casting

open access: yesSteel Research, 2001
Process stability in the thin strip casting process of steel has been investigated with a laboratory pilot caster. Depending on the steel grade and the process parameters irregular process states could be observed. It has been proved experimentally that the observed behaviour is not caused by the regulation system.

Cracking phenomena in twin roll strip casting of steel

open access: yesSteel Research, 2002
In thin strip casting of steel surface cracks may occur; it was analysed which influencing parameters are important and how the cracks can be avoided. The studies, mainly with C60-steel, lead to the following results: the cracks are formed during the casting process under high temperatures; on the strip surface hot and colder areas occur, and the ...

Modeling of solidification in twin-roll strip casting

open access: yesJournal of Materials Processing Technology, 2000
Abstract Twin-roll continuous casting combines solidification and hot rolling into a single operation to produce thin strips that are directly coilable. It offers advantages of low capital investment and low operational cost, and the strips produced have a refined solidification microstructure, which has attracted interest of global metal producers ...

Production of Clad Steel Strips by Twin‐Roll Strip Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, 2015
This work presents the results obtained from the experimental investigations performed on the production of steel clad strips by vertical twin‐roll strip casting with a combination of the austenitic stainless steel 1.4301 and the carbon steel 1.1248. This production method is based on the introduction of a solid strip between the casting rolls, where ...

Simulation of solidification microstructure in twin-roll casting strip

Computational Materials Science, 2010
The twin-roll strip casting is regarded as the most prospective technology of near-net-shape casting. The control of the grain structure is of primary importance in twin-roll strip casting because the solidification microstructure has great influence on the quality and mechanical properties of strips.

The twin-roll strip casting of magnesium

JOM, 2004
Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organization has been working since 2000 to develop twin-roll strip casting of magnesium alloy. The primary objective was to significantly reduce the manufacturing cost of the magnesium sheet through the twin-roll casting process.

Twin roll casting of aluminum alloy strips

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2004
Abstract Two kinds of twin roll caster for aluminum alloys were devised in the present study. Vertical type was adopted. The strip, which was thinner than 3 mm, could be cast at speeds higher than 60 m/min. Aluminum alloy, which freezing zone is very wide like A5182, could be cast using the twin roll caster of the present study at speeds up to 150 m ...

Water Modeling of Twin-Roll Strip Casting

Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2006
Twin-roll strip casting is regarded as a prospective technology of near net shape continuous casting. The fluid flow field and level fluctuation in the pool have a strong influence not only on composition and temperature homogeneity of pool, but also on the strip quality.

A twin-roll caster to cast clad strip

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2003
Abstract A single-roll caster and two kinds of twin-roll casters to cast clad strips were designed and assembled. One of twin-roll casters was suitable for clad strip casting. This twin-roll caster can cast clad strips of aluminum alloys at the speed of 20 m/min. The thickness of the clad strip is about 2.0 mm.
