Numerical Analysis of Temperature and Stress Field of Side Dam on the Twin‐Roll Strip Casting

Steel Research International
Side sealing technology is crucial in the twin‐roll casting process. The performance of side dam materials directly determines twin‐roll casting (TRC) process stability and safety.

Casting of composite strip using a twin roll caster

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2004
Abstract A wire-inserted composite strip was cast using a downward melt-drag twin roll caster. The downward melt-drag twin roll caster was easily modified to a twin roll caster for the composite strip by simply attaching a coil of wire. Wire of either 0.3 and 0.6 mm diameter could be inserted continuously both inside and at the surface of the strip ...

Cracking phenomena in twin roll strip casting of steel

Steel Research, 2002
In thin strip casting of steel surface cracks may occur; it was analysed which influencing parameters are important and how the cracks can be avoided. The studies, mainly with C60-steel, lead to the following results: the cracks are formed during the casting process under high temperatures; on the strip surface hot and colder areas occur, and the ...

Twin roll strip casting of low carbon steels

Ironmaking & Steelmaking, 2000
Strip casting of low carbon steels has been investigated using a laboratory twin roll machine with copper rolls. The following grades have been studied: a deep drawing low carbon (LC) steel, a LC steel with titanium addition, and a high strength low alloy (HSLA) grade.

Twin Roll Casting of Steel Strip ‐ Experiments and Model Considerations on Strip Spottiness

steel research international, 2006
Thin strip casting of steel through a twin‐roll caster demands the production of a perfectly homogeneous strip. This requirement is often not fulfilled due to non‐uniform heat contact between the solidifying strip and the rolls in the pool, which leads to temperature inhomogeneities visible at the strip behind the rolls (spottiness).

Tailored Strips by Welding, Strip Profile Rolling and Twin Roll Casting

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Conventional strips can be converted into tailored strips by further processing such as rolling and welding. Tailored strips have a thickness or thickness distribution which is designed according to the expected loads. A new approach for the production of tailored strips is the twin roll casting of profiled strips.

Advances in the Twin-Roll Strip Casting of Strip with Profiled Cross Section

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
Direct thin strip casting is an economically end energetically smart process for the production of steel strip. In a single process step, liquid steel can be cast and directly rolled to hot strip in thicknesses ranging from one to four millimeters. With the use of specifically profiled casting rolls it is possible to produce strip with optimized cross ...

Iterative Learning Control With Time-Delay Compensation: An Application to Twin-Roll Strip Casting

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2020
In this article, we propose an iterative learning control (ILC) algorithm for a class of periodic processes with a variable time-delay that is greater than one iteration of the process.

Computer modelling for thin strip twin-roll casting

Steel in Translation, 2017
In twin-roll casting, the influence of the heat-transfer rate at the metal–mold boundary on the thickness and the proportion of solidifying metal at the exit from the water-cooled roller mold is analyzed. The corresponding analytical curves are plotted for the production of moderate-carbon and stainless steel strip (thickness 1–6 mm).
