Deepening the real options debate: Real options as dynamic optimization

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, Volume 47, Issue 11, Page 2823-2870, November 2026.
Abstract Research Summary Is real option theory useful for management research? This topic was hotly debated two decades ago. Real options were said to be inapplicable to management research and to lack conceptual distinctiveness. Whereas responses to the claim about the non‐distinctiveness of real options were disparate, the concern about the theory's

Marginal productivity index policies for dynamic priority allocation in restless bandit models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Esta tesis estudia tres complejos problemas dinámicos y estocásticos de asignación de recursos: (i) Enrutamiento y control de admisión con información retrasada, (ii) Promoción dinámica de productos y el Problema de la mochila para artículos perecederos,

On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2408-2426, October 2026.
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.

A Two-armed Bandit Framework for A/B Testing

open access: yesCoRR
A/B testing is widely used in modern technology companies for policy evaluation and product deployment, with the goal of comparing the outcomes under a newly-developed policy against a standard control. Various causal inference and reinforcement learning methods developed in the literature are applicable to A/B testing.

Who Is a Patriotic Man? Rethinking Hegemonic Masculinity in Modern Iran

open access: yesGender &History, Volume 38, Issue 3, Page 846-858, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This article examines the analytical viability of the concept of “hegemonic masculinity” in the historical study of masculinities in early‐twentieth‐century Iran (c.1890–1941). It argues that a radical problematizing of the concepts of hegemony, class, “the West,” and patriotism helps us move beyond the binaries of Western‐Iranian and modern ...

On a uniform two-armed bandit problem

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Statistical Society, Japanese Issue, 1984
At n successive times, one of two experiments \(E_ 0\) or \(E_ 1\) must be chosen. If \(E_ 0\) is chosen, we observe a random variable X with a uniform distribution on (0,p). If \(E_ 1\) is chosen, we observe a random variable Y with a uniform distribution on (0,q).

Further Contributions to the "Two-Armed Bandit" Problem

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1985
A version of the two-armed bandit with two states of nature and two repeatable experiments is studied. With an infinite horizon and with or without discounting, an optimal procedure is to perform one experiment whenever the posterior probability of one of the states of nature exceeds a constant \(\xi^*\), and perform the other experiment whenever the ...

A Two-Armed Bandit Based Scheme for Accelerated Decentralized Learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The two-armed bandit problem is a classical optimization problem where a decision maker sequentially pulls one of two arms attached to a gambling machine, with each pull resulting in a random reward. The reward distributions are unknown, and thus, one must balance between exploiting existing knowledge about the arms, and obtaining new information ...

Emotional Context Modulates Neural Prediction‐Error Encoding

open access: yesPsychophysiology, Volume 63, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Emotional experiences are closely intertwined with reinforcement learning, yet the extent to which emotional context influences the neural encoding of learning signals remains unclear. The present study examined whether emotional context modulates trialwise neural prediction error (PE) encoding during reinforcement learning.

Two-armed risky bandit - a pilot test

open access: yes, 2020
The aim of this pilot test is to determine key parameter values of a two-armed bandit task by which we would like to elicit the risk-aversion from adult human subjects.
