Investigations of smoothed particle hydrodynamics method for fluid-rigid body interactions

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this project is to investigate the capability of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method for fluid-rigid body interactions. SPH is one of the most widely used meshless methods which use particles to represent the system.

Development and Application of 3D Steam Generator Thermohydraulics Analysis Code SGTH-Porous3D

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu, 2022
As the pressure and heat transfer boundaries between primary and secondary sides, the steam generator (SG) should be integrated during operation. However, SG suffers from the problems including vibration, wear, fatigue and corrosion, which will lead to ...

Atomic Theory of the Two-Fluid Model of Liquid Helium [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review, 1954
It is argued that the wave function representing an excitation in liquid helium should be nearly of the form Σif(ri)φ, where φ is the ground-state wave function, f(r) is some function of position, and the sum is taken over each atom i. In the variational principle this trial function minimizes the energy if f(r)=exp(ik·r), the energy value being E(k ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Comprehensive analysis and identification of energy performance and unsteady two-phase flow patterns based on experiments and comparison between two distinct multiphase flow models

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
In the petroleum sector, electrical submersible pumps (ESP) face numerous challenges when handling multiphase flow of gas and liquid. The primary challenge is from the build-up of the gas-bubbles within the impellers of ESPs, leading from moderate to ...

Numerical investigation of solid-liquid slurry flow through an upward-facing step

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics, 2013
The flow of a solid-water mixture through an upward-facing step in a channel is numerically investigated. The effect of expansion ratio, mean solids volume fraction and particle diameter on the velocity field, pressure distribution and solid volume ...

Development of a fluid-structure model for gas-lubricated bump-type foil thrust bearings

open access: yes, 2016
In the present study, a computational model for the coupled fluid-structure simulation of bump-type foil thrust bearings is developed. A three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes solver is extended to model the fluid flow within the thin gap.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
