The κ opioid receptor (κ receptor, KOR) is a G protein‐coupled receptor with well established roles in analgesia and immune modulation. Although historically studied primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), growing evidence indicates that κ signalling in peripheral tissues plays an important role in regulating pain, inflammation and immune ...

ABSTRACT The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is responsible for innervating all regions of the body outside of the central nervous system (CNS), the latter consisting of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. While myelin is an essential component for the efficient functioning of both CNS and peripheral nerve cells, it is particularly important for ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Cervical Sympathetic Chain Schwannoma: two Different Clinical Presentations
In this report we present 2 cervical sympathetic chain schwannoma (CSCS) cases with different clinical presentations, one being a pulsatile neck mass associated with Horner's syndrome and the other being an asymptomatic neck mass.

Hypothalamic Control of Liver Health and Disease: From Circuits to Pathophysiology and Therapies
This review delineates the hypothalamic circuits that control liver homeostasis via autonomic and neuroendocrine pathways. Dysregulation of this hypothalamus–liver axis drives disease progression across a spectrum including steatotic liver disease, liver inflammation and injury, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Persistence of pain induced by startle and forehead cooling after sympathetic blockade in patients with complex regional pain syndrome [PDF]
Background: Stimuli arousing sympathetic activity can increase ratings of clinical pain in patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Objective: To determine whether the increase in pain is mediated by peripheral sympathetic activity.

Cardiovascular disease arises from lifelong accumulation of traditional and emerging risk factors that converge on shared pathophysiological pathways, leading to diverse clinical outcomes, and can be mitigated through integrated screening, prevention, and precision therapies. ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of morbidity

An intracellular analysis of gamma-aminobutyric-acid-associated ion movements in rat sympathetic neurones [PDF]
Double-barrelled ion-sensitive micro-electrodes were used to measure the changes of the intracellular activities of Cl-, K+, and Na+ (aiCl, aiK, aiNa) in neurones of isolated rat sympathetic ganglia during the action of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA ...

An investigation of the medial branches of the cervical and thoracic sympathetic chain. [PDF]
Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Durban-Westville, 2001.The number of peripheral segmental branches of the cervical and thoracic sympathetic chains are more variable and larger than assumed by textbooks and literature (Groen et al., 1987).
