Characterization of Shigella type 1 fimbriae: expression, FimA sequence, and phase variation [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1997
This study documents the presence of type 1 fimbriae on Shigella and confirms these mannose-sensitive adherence structures to be bona fide components of the Shigella surface. While laboratory-passaged Shigella strains and lyophilized clinical isolates failed to express type 1 fimbriae, 6 of 20 recent clinical isolates, including 4 Shigella flexneri ...

Detecting TP53 mutations in paired liquid and tissue biopsies from patients with high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? High‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma is often diagnosed at advanced stages due to non‐specific symptoms and the lack of reliable screening methods. This proof‐of‐concept study introduces a novel TP53 mutation panel using unique molecular identifier‐based next‐generation sequencing for sensitive detection of high‐grade serous ovarian ...

Extraction and partial purification for adhesive protein FimH from type-1 pili which isolated from uorpathogenic E.coli

open access: yesمجلة بغداد للعلوم
Type-1 fimbriae have been extracted from E.coli which was previously isolated, the yield was 2.8 mg fimbriae/10 g bacteria , the crude fimbriae was partially purified by several solubilization and recrystilization methods using a series of buffer ...

Immunoelectron microscopic analysis of elongation of type 1 fimbriae in Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1987
Using 10- and 20-nm-diameter gold particles conjugated to an antifimbrial monoclonal antibody, we analyzed the location of assembly of newly formed subunits on growing type 1 fimbriae of Escherichia coli. Fimbriae were removed from an E. coli K-12-derived strain, CSH50, by blending.

CAT‐BLAST: Engineered bacteria for robust targeting and elimination of cancer‐associated fibroblasts

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) construct a protective stromal barrier that promotes tumor growth and resistance to therapy. To dismantle this, we developed CAT‐BLAST, an engineered bacterial platform designed to potently eliminate these cells. We engineered a safe, high‐expression E.

Unraveling the molecular basis of subunit specificity in P pilus assembly by mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
P pili are multisubunit fibers essential for the attachment of uropathogenic Escherichia coli to the kidney. These fibers are formed by the noncovalent assembly of six different homologous subunit types in an array that is strictly defined in terms of ...

Location of Binding Sites on Common Type 1 Fimbriae from Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1979
Common type 1 fimbriae were isolated from Escherichia coli and their length distribution profile was determined before and after treatment with ultrasound. As fimbriae were shortened, so their haemagglutinating capacity decreased, but their ability to bind to erythrocytes did not decrease to the same extent. Isolated fimbriae did not agglutinate inside-

Chemical dehydration‐induced ultrafast clearing method for human tissues

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional (3D) histology of human tissue through clearing has been hampered by the lengthy and intricate procedure. Here, a rapid and straightforward clearing protocol termed single‐step dehydration solvent‐based clearing (SSD) is proposed via a chemical dehydration strategy.

The structure of the PapD-PapGII pilin complex reveals an open and flexible P5 pocket [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
P pili are hairlike polymeric structures that mediate binding of uropathogenic Escherichia coli to the surface of the kidney via the PapG adhesin at their tips.

Tau‐targeting active immunotherapy slows progression and reduces pathology in mouse models of tauopathy

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
The efficacy of the novel anti‐tau active immunotherapy, p5555kb, was tested using two mouse models of tau pathology. p5555kb inoculation increased the survival rate and reduced tau pathology in tau‐overexpressing P301L mice and decreased tau seeding in the brains of C57BL/6 mice injected with human‐purified Alzheimer's disease tau.
