Advances in characterizing ubiquitylation sites by mass spectrometry

open access: yes, 2013
The attachment of one or more ubiquitin moieties to proteins plays a central regulatory mechanism in eukaryotic cells. Protein ubiquitylation regulates numerous cellular processes, including protein degradation, signal transduction, DNA repair and cell ...

Comprehensive Biophysical Profiling Evidences Self‐Oligomerization of Bacterially Expressed Pc Protein

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
Polycomb (Pc), a core component of Polycomb Repressive Complex 1 (PRC1), is largely intrinsically disordered yet forms buffer‐ and concentration‐dependent higher‐order assemblies. Integrative biophysical analysis and cryo‐electron microscopy reveal dynamic, heterogeneous oligomers, whereas AlphaFold modeling suggests that structural organization is ...

Assessing Ubiquitylation of Individual Proteins Using Xenopus Extract Systems.

open access: yes, 2018
Xenopus extract systems have been used to study ubiquitylation of proteins, and to uncover some of the fundamental processes of the ubiquitylation pathway itself. They provide a simple, quick, and robust method for studying ubiquitylation.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 11, Page 1638-1654, June 2026.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Targeted dephosphorylation of SMAD3 as an approach to impede TGF-β signaling

open access: yesiScience
Summary: TGF-β (transforming growth factor-β) signaling is involved in a myriad of cellular processes and its dysregulation has been implicated in many human diseases, including fibrosis and cancer.

Ubiquitylation and SUMOylation of Cardiac Ion Channels

open access: yes, 2010
Cardiac ion channels play an essential role in the generation of the action potential of cardiomyocytes. Over the past 15 years, a new field of research called channelopathies has emerged; it regroups all diseases caused by ion channel dysfunction ...

RNF213 Is an Interferon‐Stimulated Gene That Targets Influenza A Virus NP and Activates MDA5 to Restrict Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 31, 4 June 2026.
RNF213 is characterized as a dual‐functional antiviral effector. It directly mediates the degradation of the influenza A virus nucleoprotein (NP) while simultaneously activating the MDA5‐mediated innate immune signaling pathway. This coordinated response establishes a powerful host defense system against viral infection. ABSTRACT Influenza A virus (IAV)

PINK1 regulated mitophagy is evident in skeletal muscles

open access: yesAutophagy Reports
PINK1, mutated in familial forms of Parkinson’s disease, initiates mitophagy following mitochondrial depolarization. However, it is difficult to monitor this pathway physiologically in mice as loss of PINK1 does not alter basal mitophagy levels in most ...
